Senior Financial Accountant

Vic’s Meat | Mascot, Sydney NSW | Full Time | 5 Days On-Site Vic’s Meat is a long-established, family-owned Australian business operating across manufacturing, wholesale and retail.

We are a hands-on business with a strong entrepreneurial culture. People know each other, decisions are made close to the operation, and good ideas do not need to pass through layers of management before something happens.

As the business continues to grow, we are investing in our Finance function and are looking for a Senior Financial Accountant to work closely with our Financial Controller.

This is a hands-on role for someone who is technically strong, enjoys solving problems and wants to be close to the business.

You will act as a key extension of the Financial Controller across a complex, multi-entity group, helping strengthen reporting, controls, processes and the way Finance supports the wider business.

We want Finance to be seen as a value-adding function, not simply another layer of administration or compliance.

What you’ll be doing

Your responsibilities will include:

- Supporting month-end and year-end close across a multi-entity group
- General ledger management and balance sheet reconciliations
- Accruals, prepayments, journals and financial reporting
- Management reporting, cash flow and working capital analysis
- Investigating discrepancies and troubleshooting accounting issues
- Supporting budgeting, forecasting and commercial analysis
- Assisting with BAS, tax, audit and statutory requirements
- Supporting inventory, costing, margin and operational finance matters
- Improving financial controls, processes and reporting
- Working directly with operational managers and senior stakeholders
- Supporting the Financial Controller with projects and broader Finance initiatives
- Working alongside our internally employed offshore Finance team, which supports AP,

AR and administrative activities

The intention is for our local Finance team to spend less time on transactional work and more time on analysis, problem solving, controls and supporting the business.

What we’re looking for

We are looking for someone who combines strong technical accounting capability with strong communication skills.

You will ideally have

- CA or CPA qualification, or a clear plan towards completing it
- Strong financial accounting and month-end experience
- Excellent general ledger and reconciliation skills
- Strong technical accounting knowledge
- Advanced Excel capability
- The ability to investigate and resolve financial issues
- Good commercial judgement
- Confidence communicating with people outside Finance
- A practical and solutions-focused mindset
- The ability to work independently and take ownership

Experience in manufacturing, FMCG, wholesale, retail or another operationally complex setting would be highly regarded. Experience with Pronto, LS Retail or Phocas would also be advantageous.

The person

Technical capability is important, but personality matters just as much. We are looking for someone who is energetic, confident, approachable and genuinely enjoys working with people.

You should be comfortable challenging something when necessary, but your first instinct should be to understand the issue and work with stakeholders to find a practical solution.

You will suit Vic’s Meat if you are the type of person who is happy to walk across the site,

speak directly with someone, understand the problem and work together to get it resolved.

We value people who are collaborative, positive and focused on finding a way forward rather than dwelling on roadblocks.

Why Vic’s Meat?

We are not a large corporate, and we do not want to become one. Vic’s Meat is a family-run business where people are expected to get involved, communicate directly and help each other solve problems.

You will have genuine access to senior leaders and decision-makers and will be able to see the impact of your work across the business.

At the same time, we have ambitious plans for the business and for Finance. We want to build a highly capable, disciplined and modern Finance function without losing the practical, entrepreneurial culture that has made the business successful.

For the right person, this means the complexity and exposure of a much larger organisation, without the layers, politics and narrow job descriptions that often come with one.

It is also an opportunity to join the Finance team while it is evolving and leave a genuine mark on how the function operates.

Location and travel

This role is based at our Mascot site five days per week. The on-site requirement is non-negotiable.

Free parking is available on-site.

Occasional interstate travel may also be required, generally around once per quarter depending on business needs.

Apply

If you are a technically strong accountant who enjoys solving problems, working with people and helping Finance add genuine value to a business, we would like to hear from you. Please apply directly through SEEK with your CV.

Recruitment agency applications will not be considered.

Applicants must already have unrestricted working rights in Australia. Sponsorship is not available for this position.
