An exciting opportunity has arisen with a global financial technology and payments business.
The Opportunity
This role will see you reporting to the Head of Legal – Australia & New Zealand, with a solid connection into the broader APAC legal team. You will play a key role in advising the Australian and New Zealand businesses on regulatory developments, regulatory strategy and the implementation of regulatory requirements.
Responsibilities
- Monitor and assess Australian and New Zealand legislative, regulatory and policy developments, providing commercially focused advice on their impact on the business.
- Advise on the application and operationalisation of regulatory requirements across the Australian and New Zealand businesses.
- Support the development and execution of the business's regulatory strategy, including representing Legal & Regulatory on key strategic workstreams.
- Provide legal and regulatory advice on new products, product enhancements and market launches, working closely with product and commercial stakeholders.
- Advise on regulatory engagement with relevant government and regulatory authorities and support regulatory consultations, submissions, notifications and filings.
- Provide advice in relation to payments, financial services, retail banking and associated regulatory frameworks.
- Partner with commercial teams on matters involving merchants, service providers and other external stakeholders,
balancing regulatory requirements with commercial and strategic objectives.
- Work collaboratively with regional and global legal and regulatory teams on cross-border initiatives and emerging regulatory issues.
About You
You will be an Australian-qualified lawyer with 8+ years' PQE, ideally with experience gained in a leading financial services, payments, fintech or regulatory practice. Our client is open to candidates coming from both private practice or in house.
Ideally, you will bring:
- Strong knowledge of financial services regulation, payments or fintech, with an understanding of the regulatory environment affecting payment providers and/or retail banking.
- Experience advising on regulatory issues and interpreting legislation, policy and regulatory guidance.
- Exposure to product launches, regulatory change projects, licensing or regulatory engagement will be highly regarded.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain complex regulatory concepts to non-legal stakeholders.
- A strategic and pragmatic approach to problem solving, with the ability to identify solutions rather than simply issues.
- A high degree of initiative, independence and ownership, with the confidence to operate in a fast-moving and internationally connected business.
