Newcastle Speech Pathology
Newcastle City Council
You have the fundamentals. This is where you build real clinical depth.
Every week, you will have one hour of clinical mentoring built around our structured clinical education curriculum, plus a 30-minute one-to-one check-in. That is 90 minutes of protected time with an experienced clinician, every week, scheduled in advance.
$100,000 to $110,000 total remuneration, including superannuation. Full-time or part-time, pro rata.
WHAT YOUR FIRST YEAR LOOKS LIKE
One hour of clinical mentoring each week.
Built around our structured clinical education curriculum, so your development follows a plan rather than whatever came up that week.
A 30-minute one-to-one check-in each week.
Time to step back and make sure you are focusing on the right skills and the right qualities, not simply getting through the diary.
A team of experienced clinicians alongside you, and always a sounding board.
You are joining an established team, not filling a gap in one. Whether you want a second opinion on a clinical decision, a creative idea for a session, a resource suggestion, or someone to help you script and rehearse a difficult conversation with a family before you have it, there is always someone to ask.
Scheduled administration time.
Your notes, reports and planning time are in the calendar. They are part of your week, not something you take home.
A caseload you build up, at a pace matched to your experience.
You will not inherit somebody else's full diary on your first day. Your caseload grows as your confidence does.
A professional development budget, plus up to five days of PD leave each year.
Funded time to learn, and the leave to use it.
WHAT OUR TEAM SAYS
"Working across paeds and adults has stretched me more than I expected. I've taken on clients I wouldn't have felt ready for a few years ago,
and there's always been someone alongside me while I worked it out."
Bec, Speech Pathologist at NSP for 12 years
"We wrote our values down years ago, but the real test is what happens on a hard day. I still see clients every week, partly so that I never lose sight of that."
Alison McDonald, Founder and Director
ABOUT THE ROLE
We are hiring a Speech Pathologist, based at our Kurri Kurri clinic, with at least one day each week at our Newcastle practice in Cooks Hill.
That Cooks Hill day is one of the best parts of this role. It means you work alongside every member of our team, build relationships across both clinics, and learn from clinicians with a real range of strengths.
Your caseload will have genuine variety. You will work with paediatric and adult clients in clinic and community settings. Enough variety to build real skill, with enough structure that you always know your next step.
Full-time or part time, and we will build it around you. Tell us what suits, and we will do our best to make it work.
Kurri Kurri is in the Hunter Valley, around 40 minutes from Newcastle and a short drive from Maitland, Cessnock and Lake Macquarie.
WHAT ELSE WE OFFER
A Director who still sees clients.
Alison has been practising for 32 years and still holds her own caseload. Your supervisor understands exactly what your week involves, because she is living it alongside you.
Systems and service models built over 14 years.
Assessment templates, report frameworks and clear service models,
all ready for you to use, learn from and help improve.
A team that notices good work.
Questions are welcome here. So is telling someone when they have done something well.
Above award remuneration.
Reviewed as you grow.
YOU WILL ENJOY THIS ROLE IF
You want to develop genuine clinical depth, and you welcome structured support to get there
You want to be stretched, with experienced people alongside you while you do it
You enjoy working from a proven system and making it your own
You ask questions early and act on feedback
You want to add something to a team's culture, not simply fit into one
You are curious about the clients who do not fit the textbook
You like the idea of two clinics and plenty of people to learn from
WHAT YOU WILL NEED
A Bachelor of Speech Pathology, or an equivalent qualification recognised by Speech Pathology Australia
Eligibility for Speech Pathology Australia membership
A current Working with Children Check and National Police Check
Strong written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills
Confidence to work independently, and the judgement to seek support when you need it
Around one to two years of clinical experience is ideal. If you are close to that and this role sounds like the right fit, we would still be glad to hear from you.
