One of our government clients seeking to engage a Senior Project Officer in Brisbane.

Role: P&A; Senior Project Officer – AO6 Level

Location of work: Townsville or Brisbane

Length of contract: 11 months

Contract extensions: Not Applicable

Security clearance: Permanent Resident OR Work visa with full working rights in Australia

Your key duties and responsibilities:

In this role you will:

- Coordinate and undertake desktop and field assessments, risk assessments, spatial analysis, data management and engagement to identify site risks, and complete evaluations to inform remediation, re-commercialisation and repurposing opportunities.
- Coordinate the statewide implementation of the Risk and Prioritisation Framework for Abandoned Mine Management and Remediation to assess, rank and prioritise abandoned mine sites in a consistent, transparent and risk-based way.
- Facilitate workshops to characterise relevant risks, opportunities and controls and manage the AMLP risk register.
- Plan, commission, monitor and interpret findings from technical investigations, studies and field monitoring activities into a proposed project scope for management consideration.
- Develop the technical specifications required to engage consultants and contractors in line with relevant department procurement processes.
- Undertake procurement planning and execution in line with the approved budget.
- Assist in the preparation of briefs, letters, reports, submissions and recommendations on complex issues in regard to abandoned mines including departmental and Ministerial requests and media releases as required.
- Communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholders through clear, timely, and professional verbal and written communication, fostering positive relationships and supporting successful outcomes.
- Assist in the governance of the interagency Mines at Risk Forum.
- Support the Manager, Portfolio and Risk Assessment and broader Planning and Assessment Team to deliver the team’s core objectives as required.

About you candidate:

This position requires:

- A recognised tertiary qualification in geology, science or engineering or other relevant technical or scientific discipline related to mining would be highly regarded.
- Experience in the mining industry is highly regarded.
- Proven risk management qualifications and experience is desirable.
- A current open C class driver licence as stated in the Mandatory Requirements section.
- Physical fitness is necessary for field work in remote locations with challenging terrain.

Mandatory requirements: Licences:

- The possession of a current C class driver’s licence is mandatory.

Travel:

- Travel away from the centre may be required. This may involve travel outside of normal office hours and/or overnight accommodation.
