Help build software that supports better decisions at the highest level
Our client is looking for a Senior Software Engineer to help build and scale an enterprise SaaS platform used by boards, directors and executive teams across some of the world’s leading organisations. This is not a narrow engineering role built around picking up tickets and disappearing into the codebase.
The platform gives boards and executive teams a clearer view of how they are performing, where their dynamics may be helping or hindering them and what deserves closer attention. The software turns complex organisational insight into something practical, structured and useful.
The Senior Software Engineer helps make that possible.
You will work across an established product environment, building new features, improving existing systems and helping shape technical decisions that support the next stage of scale. Some of the platform is modern. Some of it carries older patterns. The right person will not be dismissive of that. You will understand how to improve systems carefully, modernise what needs to evolve and keep delivering value while the product continues to grow.
This role requires strong engineering judgement, product curiosity and the ability to work well with others. You will be joining a thoughtful, ambitious team that values ownership, quality, simplicity and practical problem-solving.
About the business
Our client is a Melbourne-founded SaaS scale-up building technology for board and executive performance. The platform supports board reviews, skills matrices, director feedback, CEO evaluations and broader leadership insight.
The business works with a highly senior customer base, including chairs, CEOs, directors and company secretaries across listed companies, private businesses, government, public sector and not-for-profit organisations.
The company is growing internationally and is now investing further in its product and engineering capability. The next stage is about building a stronger, more scalable platform while continuing to deliver software that customers trust.
The opportunity
You will join as a Senior Software Engineer in a hands-on product engineering role.
You will work across the full software lifecycle: understanding the problem, contributing to the technical approach, building and testing the solution, releasing into production and continuing to improve the product over time.
This is a role for someone who enjoys solving real problems, not just implementing pre-defined tasks. You will work closely with Product, Engineering and customer-facing teams to understand what needs to be built and why it matters.
You will need to balance delivery with quality. That means making thoughtful trade-offs, improving existing systems without creating unnecessary risk, and helping the team continue to lift its engineering standards.
The technology environment includes
- .NET 8
- C#
- ASP.NET
- React
- TypeScript
- SQL Server
- Redis
- Microsoft Azure
- Bitbucket Pipelines
- Razor and jQuery in some older parts of the platform
The team is also actively using and exploring AI-assisted engineering tools, including Claude Code, GitHub Copilot, Cursor, coding agents and MCP. This is not about using AI blindly. It is about knowing where these tools can accelerate development, testing, refactoring and documentation, while still applying strong human judgement to code quality, security, maintainability and product impact. What you will be doing
Your responsibilities will include
- Designing, building and maintaining scalable software across the platform
- Owning features from problem definition through to production release
- Working across backend, frontend, data and infrastructure as needed
- Improving and modernising older parts of the platform over time
- Writing clean, maintainable and well-tested code
- Making practical technical decisions that balance speed, quality and long-term maintainability
- Contributing to architectural discussions and technical design
- Reviewing code and helping maintain high engineering standards
- Mentoring and supporting other engineers through collaboration and knowledge sharing
- Troubleshooting production issues and improving reliability
- Working with Product and customer-facing teams to understand user problems
- Bringing product insight and technical judgement into the development process
- Using AI-assisted engineering tools responsibly to improve productivity and quality
- Helping evolve engineering practices, tooling and development workflows
What we are looking for This role will suit an experienced software engineer who enjoys product ownership, technical problem-solving and working in an setting where their contribution is visible.
You will ideally bring strong experience across:
- Full-stack software engineering
- C# and .NET / .NET Core
- Modern web application development
- React and TypeScript
- SQL Server or similar relational databases
- Cloud-based development, ideally Azure
- APIs, integrations and distributed systems
- Testing, code review and production support
- Working with established or legacy systems
- Making sound technical decisions in real-world product environments
You do not need to be perfect across every part of the stack. What matters is strong engineering fundamentals, good judgement and the willingness to learn where needed.
You will also bring
- A product mindset and curiosity about the customer problem
- Strong communication skills
- The ability to explain technical concepts clearly
- A collaborative and open-minded working style
- Comfort working through ambiguity
- The maturity to challenge thoughtfully when needed
- A practical approach to trade-offs
- Attention to detail and a high quality bar
- Interest in AI-assisted engineering and modern development workflows
Experience with any of the following would be valuable:
- Secure software development practices
- OWASP principles
- Authentication and authorisation
- Enterprise SaaS platforms
- Multi-tenant architectures
- Design systems
- Performance optimisation
- Observability and monitoring
- Legacy modernisation
- AI-assisted software development workflows
What success will look like Success in this role will come from the quality of the software you build, the judgement you bring and the way you help the product and team mature.
You will know you are succeeding when:
- You are delivering high-quality features that solve real customer problems
- You are trusted to own meaningful technical work end-to-end
- Your decisions improve reliability, maintainability and product quality
- You help modernise the platform without creating unnecessary risk
- You contribute to clearer engineering standards and stronger team practices
- You use AI tools to improve productivity while maintaining a strong quality bar
- Product and engineering teams value your input and judgement
- Customers benefit from software that is reliable, thoughtful and easy to use
Why join? This is an opportunity to join a growing SaaS company at an important stage of product and engineering maturity.
You will work on software used by people operating at the highest levels of business. The product has real purpose: helping boards and executive teams understand themselves more clearly, make better decisions and improve how they operate.
You will not be one small part of a huge engineering machine. You will have room to contribute, influence technical direction and help shape how the platform evolves.
The environment will suit someone who wants ownership, challenge and visible impact.
Location and package
This is a Melbourne-based role connected to the company’s CBD office. The team works flexibly, although regular in-person collaboration is important. The expectation is approximately three days per week in the office.
The package includes
- $140,000 to $160,000 + superannuation
- A generous employee share option grant
- The opportunity to work in a product-led SaaS scale-up
- Meaningful technical ownership during a significant stage of growth
Candidates must have full working rights in Australia. Could this be your next chapter?
This is an opportunity to build software that supports better governance, stronger leadership and more effective decision-making.
If you are a Senior Software Engineer who enjoys ownership, product thinking, thoughtful modernisation and practical engineering, this could be a very strong next move.
