Background / Project The project is a high-profile initiative within CommSec focused on expanding features from the CommSec Pocket offering into the broader platform. The objective is to build a new ETF (Exchange Traded Fund) proposition, providing investors with feature-rich investment experiences across both web and mobile.

A key component will be developing the trading and order execution journey, ensuring customers can efficiently place and manage trades. Engineers will gain exposure to critical areas including order execution, trade experiences, performance, scalability and security.

The project is currently in the discovery and development phase, with elements of the proposition and application architecture already established. This provides engineers with an prospect to contribute to the development of new / greenfield experiences rather than traditional BAU work.

The initiative is a strategic and highly visible project, with strong executive sponsorship. The broader program is expected to provide approximately 12-24 months of work, initially offered through six-month contracts with a likelihood of extension.

Technical Requirements

One Senior Mobile Engineer will join an existing mobile squad working on the same CommSec ETF initiative. The squad currently has one iOS and one Android engineer, with the aim of building the team further.

The hiring manager is open to either iOS / Android specialists.



Experience across both platforms would be advantageous but is not mandatory.

The role requires someone who can confidently collaborate with frontend/backend engineers, and understand the broader system architecture, without being responsible for designing or owning backend solutions.

Candidate Profile

- Senior-level mobile engineering experience with strong delivery capability.
- Ability to work independently within an established squad structure.
- Native Android development using Kotlin (Java also relevant).
- Strong experience building and maintaining mobile apps.
- Knowledge of dynamic UX components (beyond static API-driven design).
- Problem-solving initiative - able to work through blockers and deliver outcomes independently.
- Experience in frequent release environments
- Candidates should demonstrate strong engineering fundamentals, particularly around performance, scalability and security.
- The role offers the opportunity to work on a new, highly visible product experience rather than BAU maintenance.
- Prior experience in AI-related mobile applications or exposure to multi-agent systems is a nice to have.

Desired Skills and Experience Senior Android Engineer with strong experience designing, developing, and maintaining high-quality native mobile applications using Kotlin and Java. Proven track record of delivering scalable, secure,



and high-performance mobile solutions in Agile environments, with expertise across the full software development lifecycle from concept to production release. Skilled in building intuitive and dynamic user experiences, integrating APIs, optimizing application performance, and collaborating closely with product, frontend, backend, and cross-functional engineering teams. Experienced working in quick-paced delivery environments with frequent releases while maintaining a strong focus on code quality, security, and reliability.

Demonstrated ability to solve complex technical challenges independently, contribute to greenfield product initiatives, and deliver customer-centric mobile experiences. Strong understanding of system architecture, mobile scalability, performance optimization, and modern Android development practices. Passionate about building innovative digital products within fintech and investment platforms, including trading, investment, and wealth management solutions.

Exposure to emerging technologies such as AI-powered mobile applications and intelligent automation is an added advantage.
