The Workshop Labourer's primary responsibility is cleaning (wire brushing) steel and carrying out painting activities to prepare fabricated items for dispatch or further processing. This role ensures steel is properly cleaned, coated, stacked, and handled to maintain quality, appearance, and protection. In addition to painting and cleaning, this role supports general workshop activities to help maintain flow, safety, and organisation.
Key responsibilities
- Work safely at all times and follow WHS requirements
- Clean steel thoroughly to required standards
- Carry out painting and coating activities correctly
- Maintain clean, tidy, and hazard-free painting and workshop areas
- Handle materials and equipment safely at all times and follow WHS requirements
- Follow instructions from supervisors promptly
- Stack and stage painted steel correctly
- Remove rubbish and maintain housekeeping standards across workshop and yard
- Learn workshop processes and systems
- Assist with basic maintenance and cleaning of tools and equipment
