About Source Separation Systems
Source Separation Systems is an Australian-owned family business providing innovative waste diversion solutions, designed and manufactured to connect Australians to a more sustainable future.
We design, manufacture and supply waste separation, recycling and organics systems for councils, commercial customers, schools, universities, healthcare providers and major organisations across Australia.
Our products matter, but our people are our real point of difference. We take pride in practical problem-solving, client consultation, innovation, quality manufacturing, reliable delivery and exceptional customer service. We work closely with customers to understand how we can support their sustainability goals.
Our Boolaroo facility brings together our sales, customer service, design, production, warehouse and manufacturing teams, giving our people direct access to the product knowledge, design capability, service delivery expertise and manufacturing capability needed to respond in an agile way to customer needs.
About the role
We are looking for a commercially driven, relationship-focused and self-motivated Strategic Business Development Manager to help grow our customer base, develop recent market opportunities and expand strategic relationships.
This is an office-based role at our Boolaroo facility. Being based on site is an important part of how this role works, giving you direct access to the team, product knowledge and manufacturing capability needed to turn customer opportunities into real, deliverable outcomes.
This role will suit someone who enjoys consultative, service-led business development. You will need to understand customer problems, ask good questions, identify opportunities and work with our internal team to shape solutions that are commercially sound, operationally practical and aligned with our sustainability purpose.
The role is about growth. We are looking for someone who can build genuine long term relationships, identify new opportunities, develop strategic accounts and help customers understand the value of working with our Australian business.
You will also work with a focused portfolio of strategic customers where there is genuine opportunity to grow relationships, expand product use and increase long-term value. This is not a purely reactive account management role. We are looking for someone who can create opportunity, follow through consistently and help us build meaningful commercial relationships across sectors such as healthcare, aged care, education, commercial facilities, corporate organisations and other high-potential markets.
You will work closely with our Sales Manager and wider team to ensure opportunities are properly qualified, recorded, prioritised and progressed. Your work will help us grow profitably while continuing to deliver the responsive, informed and relationship-led customer experience we are known for.
What you'll do
· Identify and develop new customer opportunities across agreed target markets.
· Build strong relationships with decision-makers, influencers and key customer contacts.
· Research customer organisations to understand their structure, needs, goals, ordering patterns and growth potential.
· Develop a qualified opportunity pipeline with clear next actions, estimated value, timing and status.
· Proactively contact potential customers through calls, emails, LinkedIn, meetings, referrals and industry connections.
· Follow up leads, website downloads, enquiries and opportunities in a structured and timely way.
· Work with existing strategic customers to identify growth opportunities, including new sites, new departments, repeat orders and product expansion.
· Expand customer relationships beyond a single contact point by identifying additional locations, teams, offices and stakeholders.
· Understand customer sustainability goals and recommend solutions that deliver practical environmental and operational benefits.
· Work with our Sales Manager on larger opportunities, pricing, proposals and strategic customer activity.
· Work closely with our internal teams to understand product options, production capability, customer requirements and delivery considerations.
· Use Monday.com to maintain accurate records of customer activity, opportunities, quote follow-up and pipeline progress.
· Monitor opportunity progress and flag risks, delays, missing information or customer concerns early.
· Attend customer visits, presentations, conferences and industry events where appropriate.
· Work with our Marketing team to identify promotional opportunities, campaigns, case studies and customer engagement initiatives.
· Use customer insights to contribute to product development, marketing direction and business growth ideas.
· Provide regular updates on sales activity, pipeline value, strategic accounts, opportunities won, opportunities lost and future growth potential.
What you'll bring
You may have experience in business development, account management, commercial sales, strategic customer relationships, consultative sales, territory management, customer success or industry relationship development.
You will ideally bring:
· a strong commercial mindset and genuine drive to grow revenue;
· confidence proactively identifying, pursuing and converting new business opportunities;
· the initiative to seek out growth rather than waiting for enquiries to arrive;
· proven ability to research target customers, uncover opportunities and open new conversations;
· confidence speaking with decision-makers and building trust across different levels of an organisation;
· proven ability to build long-term customer relationships that lead to repeat business, referrals and account growth;
· the ability to understand customer needs, ask strong questions and recommend practical solutions;
· strong communication and follow-up skills, with the discipline to keep opportunities moving;
· strong organisation, time management and pipeline discipline;
· experience using CRM systems, spreadsheets, Monday.com or other workflow tools to track opportunities and next actions;
· the ability to identify opportunities, risks and priorities clearly;
· a practical, self-driven approach and strong personal accountability;
· confidence working in a small, fast-moving team where initiative and follow-through matter;
· an interest in sustainability, waste diversion, recycling or practical environmental solutions.
You will also need to enjoy being part of a close, office-based team. This role will suit someone who values being connected to the people around them, understands the benefit of being close to the manufacturing process, and enjoys working collaboratively to turn customer opportunities into real, deliverable outcomes.
Experience selling into commercial facilities, healthcare, aged care, education, corporate, property, facilities management or sustainability-focused markets would be highly regarded.
Why join us?
At Source Separation Systems, you will be joining a growing Australian family business with a strong purpose, a committed team and a genuine focus on sustainability.
This role offers:
· the chance to make a real difference in the world with sustainability-focused solutions.
· the opportunity to make a visible impact on business growth;
· a broad and varied customer base across meaningful sectors;
· the chance to develop new strategic relationships and open new markets;
· a close office-based team environment where sales, service, design, production and manufacturing work together;
· direct access to our manufacturing capability, giving you real product knowledge and practical customer insight;
· the ability to shape how we build pipeline, manage opportunities and grow strategic customer relationships;
· a workplace where ownership, follow-through, improvement and customer care matter.
