Are you an experienced Fibre Optic Splicer or Communications Technician looking for more variety, responsibility and the opportunity to work across some of Western Australia’s leading communications projects?

Lightspeed Communications & Electrical is looking for an experienced Communications Technician with strong fibre optic installation, splicing and testing capability to join our Perth-based team.

This is a hands-on role suited to someone who takes pride in producing quality work, understands fibre properly, and wants to be part of a team that values doing the job right the first time.

Our work includes a diverse mix of commercial, industrial, government, infrastructure and remote communications projects throughout Perth and regional Western Australia.

The majority of work is Perth-based, with regular opportunities for remote project work, overtime and weekend works for team members who are interested.

What You'll Be Doing

You will work alongside our Operations team and Senior Technicians delivering communications and fibre optic projects from installation through to final testing and handover.

Your responsibilities will include:

- Fibre optic cable installation, hauling and pathway works

- Fusion splicing of single-mode and multimode fibre

- Fibre termination into FOBOTs, enclosures, cabinets and communications racks

- OTDR and optical loss testing

- Interpreting OTDR traces, test results and fibre loss budgets

- Fibre fault finding and network diagnostics

- Copper data cabling installation, termination and testing

- Reading drawings, fibre schedules and project documentation

- Completing accurate job notes, test results, photographs and completion documentation

- Working to client specifications, Australian Standards and Lightspeed quality requirements

- Identifying defects,



variations and additional works while onsite

- Communicating professionally with clients, supervisors and other trades

- Participating in toolbox meetings and contributing ideas to improve how we work

What We're Looking For

Ideally, you will have:

- Certificate III in Telecommunications or equivalent

- Minimum 2 years' experience in telecommunications, fibre optics or a similar technical role

- Fibre optic splicing experience

- Fibre Optic endorsement

- Experience using fibre testing equipment including:

- OTDR

- LSPM

- VFL

- Live Fibre Identifier

- Ability to interpret OTDR traces and fibre optic loss budgets

- Data cabling termination and testing experience

- White Card

- Current Australian C-Class Driver's Licence – manual preferred

- Strong fault-finding and problem-solving ability

- Good computer literacy and confidence using digital job management systems

- Solid attention to detail and documentation

- Excellent customer service and communication skills

- Ability to work both independently and as part of a close-knit team

Highly Regarded

The following would be advantageous but are not essential:

- simPRO experience

- EWP licence

- Working at Heights

- Confined Space Entry

- First Aid

- High Risk Work Licence

- Existing inductions or experience working across major mining and industrial sites including Rio Tinto, BHP, Alcoa or Fortescue

- Experience working on government, infrastructure,



mining or industrial communications networks

- Experience with fibre backbone upgrades, cutovers and live network environments

Additional earning opportunities may be available through overtime, after-hours works and remote project assignments.
