Alcohol and Other Drug Services Central Australia (ADSCA) is a specialist, multi-disciplinary Alcohol and Other Drug (AOD) Service that operates within a Trauma Informed Practice (TIP), harm minimisation model of care servicing the Central Australia/Barkly region.
As a Community Counsellor your primary objective is to utilize a social emotional wellbeing framework to provide holistic, trauma-informed, evidence based, clinical counselling and support in the areas of alcohol and other drugs (AOD), mental health (MH) and social emotional wellbeing (SEWB) to individuals, families and communities, in selected Central Australian Aboriginal communities, within a Primary Health Care Team.
Using a caseload management approach this position works in partnership with key stakeholders to facilitate provision of comprehensive AOD services to remote communities in the Central Australia. The position is also expected to participate in and facilitate AOD education and professional development to Primary Health Care staff and community-based stakeholders.
To be successful you need to be an accredited Social Worker with recognised qualifications in Social Work which provides for the eligibility of membership of the Australian Association of Social Workers (AAWS) or recognised qualifications in Psychology with eligibility for registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA)
and have high level knowledge of applying theories and models to work with clients to identify potential harms and change substance use behaviours in a primary health care setting. Experience in facilitating and delivering a range of health promotion and education programs in both community and clinic settings, utilising community development principles and framework and demonstrated ability to provide highly effective assessment, case management, withdrawal services and other treatment intervention services for people experiencing problems with their own substance misuse and their families.
