The opportunity

As Community Football & Competition Manager, Southern NSW, you will help strengthen community football by leading the delivery, development and sustainability of AFL Riverina competitions.

Based in Wagga Wagga, you will work closely with leagues, clubs, volunteers, officials and umpires to deliver quality football experiences across the region. You will also lead the growth and development of umpiring across Southern NSW and contribute as a senior member of the Regional NSW & ACT Community Football team.

What you’ll own

You will guide the effective delivery of community football competitions while building strong relationships and supporting sustainable leagues, clubs and umpiring pathways.

You’ll add value through:

- Coordinating AFL Riverina home and away competitions and finals series to deliver quality experiences for participants, officials, umpires and volunteers
- Building trusted relationships with the AFL Riverina Board, league and club presidents, and other key stakeholders
- Supporting leagues and competitions with competition structures, competitive balance initiatives and club sustainability
- Managing league rules and supporting the effective implementation of by-law changes in line with national guidelines
- Leading the umpiring portfolio to grow the number and capability of umpires across Southern NSW
- Working with the AFL Game Development engagement team to provide localised education and support to leagues and clubs




- Contributing subject matter expertise and collaborating across the Regional NSW & ACT Community Football team
- Managing budgets, invoices, payments and financial reporting with accuracy and sound judgement
- Supporting peers and contributing to projects that advance community football outcomes across the region

What you’ll bring

- Solid communication, relationship-building and negotiation capability
- Experience delivering effective operational and administrative outcomes
- Sound commercial acumen and confidence managing budgets and financial processes
- The ability to plan, prioritise and deliver in a fast-moving environment
- An adaptable approach, with the judgement to challenge existing practices and support positive change
- An understanding of the sporting industry, particularly community sport
- Experience in football, a large community-based sporting organisation or a comparable sector
- Strong attention to detail and a commitment to accurate, high-quality work
- The ability to manage conflict constructively, progress matters and develop practical solutions
- Availability to work outside regular hours, including evenings and weekends, as required within the sporting industry
