About the role

This is a hands-on leadership role responsible for keeping Council’s plant, equipment and fleet safe, modern, reliable and fit for purpose. You’ll shape everything from fleet strategy, procurement and renewals to maintenance, budgets, compliance and asset performance, balancing operational needs with long-term value. It’s a great opportunity to modernise how Council manages its assets, work across teams and make a visible impact on the way people get their jobs done.

Key Highlights

- Own the fleet strategy — plan future vehicle and equipment needs, renew ageing assets and make smart, whole-of-life investment decisions.
- Keep things moving — oversee maintenance, repairs, safety, utilisation, contracts and day-to-day fleet and plant operations.
- Drive smarter ways of working — improve systems, processes, policies and data to make fleet management more efficient and future-focused.
- Work with people, not just assets — partner with operational teams, suppliers and leaders to deliver equipment that genuinely works for the workforce.

About the you

You’re a practical, proactive professional who enjoys solving problems, improving the way things work and making a real-world impact. You’ll bring a mix of technical knowledge,

commercial thinking and strong people skills to keep Council’s fleet and plant performing at its best. Most importantly, you’re curious, organised and confident making decisions, working with others and finding smarter ways to get things done.

- You know your stuff - bring experience with fleet, plant, equipment or municipal operations, along with a solid understanding of asset management, safety and maintenance.
- You’re a problem-solver - you can analyse systems, spot opportunities, make sound decisions and turn ideas into practical improvements and innovation.
- You’re organised and commercially minded - you’re comfortable managing budgets, procurement, contracts, projects and competing priorities.
- You’re great with people - you communicate clearly, build strong relationships and work collaboratively with internal teams, contractors and the community.
