About the role

The Mental Health Support Worker provides practical, person-centred support to people living with psychosocial disability, mental health challenges and other complex support needs. The role focuses on helping participants build independence, maintain daily routines, engage safely in their community and work toward their NDIS goals. Support must be delivered with empathy, consistency and respect for each participant's individual choices, culture, identity and lived experience. This is a support role and does not involve diagnosing conditions, providing clinical treatment or replacing qualified mental health professionals.

Key responsibilities

- Provide individualised support in participants' homes and within the community.
- Support participants experiencing anxiety, depression, trauma-related challenges, emotional dysregulation, social isolation or other psychosocial barriers.
- Use trauma-informed, recovery-oriented and strengths-based approaches.
- Assist participants to establish healthy routines, attend appointments and complete daily living activities.
- Support community participation, social connection, education, volunteering and employment-related goals.
- Encourage participants to develop confidence, independence and practical life skills.
- Recognise changes in a participant's presentation, behaviour or wellbeing and report concerns promptly.
- Follow participant support plans, behaviour support plans, risk assessments and crisis or safety plans.
- Respond calmly and appropriately to distress, escalation or unexpected situations.




- Maintain skilled boundaries while building respectful and trusting relationships.

About you

- Empathy and a genuine respect for people living with mental health challenges.
- Emotional maturity and the ability to remain calm under pressure.
- Strong communication and active-listening skills.
- Reliability, punctuality and consistency.
- Integrity and the ability to maintain confidentiality.
- Good professional boundaries.
- Patience and the ability to work at the participant's pace.
- Sound judgement and a willingness to seek guidance when required.
- Relevant experience supporting people with psychosocial disability or mental health challenges.
- Certificate III or IV in Mental Health, Individual Support, Community Services, Disability Support or a related field, or equivalent relevant experience.

Essential qualifications and requirements

- Current NDIS Worker Screening clearance.
- Current Working with Children Check or Blue Card where required.
- Current First Aid and CPR certification.
- Current Australian driver licence.
- Reliable, registered and comprehensively insured vehicle.
- Ability to use a smartphone and complete electronic case notes and reports.
- Australian working rights.
- Willingness to complete all BASIA induction and mandatory training requirements.
