Townsville Christian College is a growing independent Christian school providing education from Prep to Year 12. The College operates in a dynamic school environment where reliable ICT systems, classroom technology, cloud platforms, network infrastructure, audiovisual systems and event support are essential to daily teaching, learning, administration and community life.
We are seeking an ICT Support Technician to join our ICT team and provide practical, responsive and technically capable support across the College's ICT environment.
Position:
The ICT Support Technician will provide first and second-level technical support to staff, students and school operations. The role is primarily an ICT support position, with additional responsibility for supporting technology used in classrooms, assemblies, events, production environments and facility-related systems.
This position requires a technician who is confident working across endpoint support, helpdesk ticketing, user account management, networked systems, cloud education platforms, basic scripting and the technical support of school audiovisual and event infrastructure.
Key Responsibilities
The successful applicant will be responsible for:
- Providing first and second-level ICT support to staff, students and school departments in a professional and customer-focused manner.
- Logging, triaging, updating and resolving support requests through the College's helpdesk / ticketing system.
- Supporting Windows endpoints, staff devices, student devices, printers, peripherals, classroom displays and general ICT equipment.
- Assisting with endpoint deployment, device configuration, software installation, imaging, updates and asset tracking.
- Managing and supporting user accounts, groups, permissions and access controls in Microsoft Active Directory and on-premises Windows Server environments.
- Assisting with Group Policy, shared folders, mapped drives, print services and general domain-based administration.
- Supporting Google Workspace for Education, including user profiles, groups, organisational units, basic policy settings and account lifecycle tasks.
- Supporting wired and wireless network environments, including troubleshooting connectivity, VLAN-related issues, wireless access and UniFi wireless/network management.
- Assisting with basic ICT automation, reporting and administrative scripting using Python, PowerShell or similar tools.

- Supporting school assemblies, chapel services, presentations and events from a technical services perspective.
- Providing technical support for school audiovisual systems, including audio consoles, video switching, routing, display systems, streaming/recording workflows and network-connected AV equipment.
- Assisting AV technicians and event staff with the setup, operation and troubleshooting of systems such as Allen & Heath digital audio consoles, Blackmagic video switching/routing environments and related production hardware/software.
- Providing support for network-connected lighting and control systems, including basic DMX/sACN concepts, lighting control infrastructure and troubleshooting of connected devices.
- Assisting with basic support and coordination of facility-related technology systems, including building management or control systems such as Reliable Controls, where they interface with the ICT environment.
- Following ICT security, child safety, privacy, data protection and acceptable-use requirements within a school environment.
- Escalating complex issues appropriately to senior ICT staff, vendors or external contractors.
- Participating in ICT projects, system upgrades, school events and operational improvements as required.
Essential Selection Criteria
Applicants must be able to demonstrate:
- An AQF Advanced Diploma or higher qualification in Information Technology, Telecommunications, Networking, Systems Administration or a closely related technical discipline.
- Practical experience in an ICT support, helpdesk, systems support, school ICT, managed services or technical operations role.
- Strong troubleshooting ability across Windows endpoints, printers, peripherals, software, user accounts and network connectivity.
- Experience supporting Microsoft Active Directory and on-premises Windows Server environments.
- Experience using or administering Google Workspace for Education or a similar enterprise cloud productivity platform.
- Understanding of wired and wireless networking fundamentals, including IP addressing, VLAN concepts, DHCP, DNS and wireless troubleshooting.
- Experience with UniFi wireless/network management or a comparable centrally managed wireless platform.
- Ability to support end users professionally, patiently and clearly in a school or customer-service environment.
- Ability to document work, follow procedures, manage tickets and communicate clearly with staff and internal stakeholders.
- Basic scripting or automation capability using Python, PowerShell or similar tools.
- Ability to support school event technology, including audio, video, presentation and streaming systems at a practical technical-support level.
- Capacity to work safely and appropriately in a school environment, including around students, staff, events, classrooms and operational areas.
- A current Queensland Working with Children Check / Blue Card, or the ability to obtain one before commencement.
- A willingness to support, respect and uphold the Christian ethos, values, policies and community expectations of Townsville Christian College.
Highly Regarded experience
The following experience will be highly regarded:
- Previous experience working in a school, education, church, not-for-profit or community-facing technical environment.
- Experience with helpdesk systems, device lifecycle management and ICT asset registers.
- Familiarity with Google Admin Console in an education environment.
- Familiarity with Microsoft Group Policy, Windows deployment, printer management and shared-folder permissions.
- Familiarity with UniFi access points, switches, controllers and wireless troubleshooting.
- Familiarity with Allen & Heath digital audio systems, including dLive, SQ, Avantis or similar digital consoles.
- Familiarity with Blackmagic Design video switching, routing, capture or streaming workflows.
- Understanding of DMX, sACN, Art-Net or network-connected lighting/control systems.
- Exposure to building management systems, particularly Reliable Controls or similar network-connected control platforms.
- Experience supporting assemblies, chapel services, school productions, live events or presentation technology.
- Experience with basic Python scripting for ICT administration, reporting or automation.
- Understanding of cyber safety, privacy and ICT security expectations in a school workplace.
