Position Information

Kentish and Latrobe Councils are seeking an experienced and enthusiastic Tourism and Visitor Services Coordinator to lead the delivery and development of visitor services across both municipalities.

This is a key role within the Councils' Community and Economic Development team, providing leadership across visitor information services, tourism provider engagement, volunteer coordination, visitor-facing retail operations and financial management.

The successful applicant will build strong relationships with local tourism operators, industry stakeholders, community organisations and volunteers, while ensuring Council's visitor services are professional, welcoming, well-coordinated, financially responsible and responsive to changing visitor needs.

The role will provide leadership to the Visitor Information Centre function, including operational planning, service standards, volunteer engagement, retail operations, merchandising, budget preparation and monitoring, revenue and expenditure management, financial reporting and performance monitoring. The incumbent will be expected to identify opportunities to improve operational efficiency, grow revenue and ensure resources are used effectively to achieve Council's visitor services objectives.

The role will also support the development of strong connections across the local tourism industry and identify opportunities to improve the visitor experience and strengthen the contribution of tourism to the local economy.

We are looking for an individual who brings demonstrated experience in tourism, visitor services, hospitality, destination management or a related field, together with robust organisational, financial management, communication and leadership capabilities.

Applicants should be able to demonstrate experience in managing budgets and financial resources, monitoring income and expenditure, interpreting financial information and making sound operational decisions within approved budgets. Experience managing retail revenue, stock or other income-generating visitor services will be highly regarded.

This position will suit someone who is confident working independently, can manage competing priorities effectively and enjoys building productive relationships with a diverse range of people. You will need to be comfortable taking initiative, solving problems, managing resources and turning ideas into practical outcomes.

About Us

The Latrobe and Kentish Councils are located adjacent to each other in the north-west of Tasmania and cover an area from the coastal beaches of Port Sorell to the Highland regions of Mount Roland and Cradle Mountain.

Latrobe and Kentish Councils value collaboration and partnerships both within and outside their municipalities. As part of their business model, the Councils have entered into a resource-sharing arrangement. This allows both Councils to deliver services and outcomes for their respective communities to gain benefits that may have been otherwise unattainable.

Since the inception of the resource sharing arrangements in 2010,

the number of resources shared has steadily grown and the two Councils now operate as one organisation with each Council retaining their respective elected representatives.
