Position Purpose
The Sales Representative is responsible for generating new business and maintaining strong relationships with existing customers within the heavy machinery hire industry. The role involves identifying customer requirements, recommending appropriate machinery and hire solutions, preparing quotations, securing bookings, and achieving agreed sales and revenue targets.
The successful candidate will develop a strong understanding of the company's equipment fleet, customer requirements, market conditions, and local construction, civil, infrastructure, mining, agricultural and other relevant industries.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain relationships with existing and prospective customers.
- Identify and pursue new sales and business opportunities.
- Conduct regular customer visits and site meetings.
- Understand customer project requirements and recommend suitable machinery and hire solutions.
- Prepare accurate quotations and negotiate hire rates within company guidelines.
- Follow up quotations, enquiries and leads to maximise conversion.
- Maintain an active sales pipeline and achieve agreed sales targets.
- Promote the company's equipment fleet, services and value proposition.
- Monitor competitor activity, market conditions and customer requirements.
- Work closely with the hire desk, operations, transport and workshop teams to ensure customer requirements are met.
- Coordinate machinery availability, delivery and collection requirements with internal teams.
- Resolve customer issues promptly and professionally.
- Maintain accurate customer records, sales activities, quotations and opportunities within the company's CRM or systems.
- Identify opportunities to increase customer spend through additional equipment, longer hire periods and related services.
- Attend industry events, trade shows, customer meetings and networking opportunities as required.
- Ensure all sales activities comply with company policies, pricing procedures, safety requirements and relevant legislation.

- Sales revenue and gross profit targets achieved.

Skills and Experience
Essential:
- Previous experience in sales, business development or account management.
- Strong communication, negotiation and relationship-building skills.
- Proven ability to generate new business and meet sales targets.
- Strong commercial awareness and customer service skills.
- Ability to manage multiple customers, quotations and opportunities.
- Current driver's licence.
- Good computer skills and confidence using CRM, quoting and Microsoft Office systems.
Desirable:
- Experience in heavy machinery, equipment hires, construction, civil, mining, agriculture or a related industry.
- Knowledge of excavators, loaders, skid steers, dozers, graders, rollers, telehandlers, access equipment or other heavy equipment.
- Existing industry contacts and customer relationships.
- Understanding of equipment hire rates, transport requirements and machinery applications.
- Technical or mechanical knowledge of heavy equipment.
