Job Title: Open Space Maintenance Officer

Employment Type: Casual (38hrs a week, with potential for full time permanent positions)

About the Role

We’re looking for a hands-on and reliable Open Space Maintenance Officer to support the upkeep of parks, gardens, and natural areas. In this role, you’ll carry out a range of maintenance tasks, including horticulture, weed control, planting, ride on mowing, and general facility care. You’ll also operate plant and equipment, perform safety checks, and respond to community requests—all with a robust focus on safety, teamwork, and customer service.

Key Responsibilities:
Assist with horticulture, conservation, arboriculture, and general park maintenance tasks in line with scheduled work programs
Carry out a range of open space maintenance duties, including ride on mowing, brush cutting, mulching, pruning, watering, and fertilising
Undertake weed management tasks such as hand weeding, woody weed removal, and the application of herbicides in accordance with regulations
Participate in planting programs and natural area restoration activities
Maintain public amenities and facilities to a high standard, including the removal of litter and graffiti




Operate and maintain a variety of plant and equipment safely and effectively
Complete basic audits and risk assessments to support public safety
Keep accurate records of work completed as required by supervisors
Deliver outstanding customer service and respond promptly to community requests or enquiries
Foster positive working relationships with colleagues, contractors, and the public

Requirements:
Current Victorian Driver’s Licence
Medium Rigid Truck Licence (Mandatory)
Demonstrated experience in open space maintenance
Proven background in horticulture, conservation, or arboriculture
Competency in using tools, machinery, and mechanical equipment relevant to outdoor maintenance
Agricultural Chemical Users Certificate (desirable)
Valid Working with Children Check
National Police Check
Chainsaw Proficiency Certificate (Preferred)
Certificate II or III in Horticulture, Arboriculture, or Conservation (Preferred)
