Your role
The Senior Courts Media Officer plays an important role in the Courts Media Unit, which manages media enquiries related to the NSW Local, District, Children's and Coroners Court. This is an exciting opportunity for a journalism or communications professional looking to move into the justice space or to advance their career. This role is temporary until 30 June **** with possibility of extension.
What you'll do
The Senior Courts Media Officer provides media and issues management support for the Courts Media Unit, including managing complex court-related media enquiries, preparing media responses and briefings, and liaising with journalists, court registries, judicial staff and internal stakeholders. The role supports accurate, lawful and timely media engagement across the courts, applies sound judgement to sensitive and high-risk matters, and escalates issues to the Courts Media Manager where required.
The Courts Media Unit manages media enquiries for the NSW Local, District, Children's and Coroners Courts. This small but collaborative team has strong working relationships with court staff, the DCJ Communications Branch, and media statewide.

In addition to the essential requirements outlined in the role description,



the ideal candidate will have a strong background in journalism or communications, and a knowledge of or willingness to learn judicial processes. You will need to work autonomously, use sound judgement under significant deadline pressure, and treat sensitive court matters with strict confidentiality.
