Female Disability Support Worker Isabella Plains ACT We are seeking a compassionate, patient, and proactive Disability Support Worker to join our team in the Rosebery area.
This rewarding opportunity involves supporting a participant living with complex mental health and psychosocial disabilities, helping them maintain independence, engage with their community, and achieve their personal goals in a safe and supportive environment.
Your Role Our Client Our client is a 33-year-old female living with Schizoaffective Disorder, Autism Spectrum Disorder (Level 2), Complex Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (C-PTSD), and Alcohol Use Disorder.
She enjoys music, photography, art, shopping, community outings, and spending time in parks and outdoor environments.
The ideal support worker will be calm, consistent, trauma-informed, and able to build a trusting relationship while supporting the participant's daily living skills, wellbeing, and community participation.
Key Responsibilities Daily Living Community Access Support participation in daily living tasks and household activities.
Assist with community access, shopping, appointments, and meaningful social activities.
Encourage engagement in hobbies and interests such as art, photography, music, and outdoor activities.
Medication Health Management Provide prompting, monitoring, and support with medication routines.
Encourage medication compliance in line with care plans and treating team recommendations.
Monitor wellbeing and report concerns appropriately.
Nutrition Meal Support Assist with meal planning, grocery shopping, and meal preparation.
Encourage healthy eating habits and adequate nutrition.
Monitor wellbeing during periods of mental health deterioration or increased alcohol use.
Mental Health Emotional Wellbeing Build rapport through respectful, non-judgmental communication.
Support emotional regulation through preferred calming activities.
Monitor for early signs of distress and implement de-escalation strategies when required.
Maintain predictable routines and provide reassurance during times of stress or uncertainty.
Communication Behaviour Support Use trauma-informed and autism-informed approaches.
Provide information in simple, clear steps and allow time for processing.
Offer choices and promote autonomy wherever possible.
Support the participant through periods of verbal distress while maintaining professional boundaries.
Personal Care Household Support Support personal care routines as required.
Assist with household tasks and maintaining a safe living setting.
Encourage independence while providing appropriate guidance and support.
About You Experience supporting individuals with psychosocial disabilities, autism, or mental health conditions is highly regarded.
Strong communication and relationship-building skills.
Calm, patient, and able to work effectively in challenging situations.
Understanding of trauma-informed and person-centred support practices.
Ability to identify and respond appropriately to early signs of distress.
Able to work independently and collaboratively within a multidisciplinary support team.
Essential Qualifications Certificate III in Individual Support, Disability, Mental Health, or equivalent NDIS Worker Screening Check (current or willing to obtain) Employee Working with Children Check (NSW) National Police Check (current) Current First Aid and CPR Certificates Australian Driver's Licence and reliable insured vehicle Ready to Make a Difference?
