The client is seeking a full-time Accountant with strong financial and analytical skills to join the business.
The successful candidate will be responsible for supporting the financial management of the business, ensuring accurate financial reporting, effective cost control, compliance and informed financial decision-making across the retail network.
Minimum requirement Bachelor's degree or higher qualification in Accounting, Finance, Commerce, or a related field.
Minimum 1 years of relevant accounting experience, preferably within retail, telecommunications, or a multi-store business setting.
Roles and Responsibilities Prepare and analyse financial statements, management accounts, financial reports and financial schedules for Star Phones' multi-store retail operations.
Prepare regular financial reports covering sales, revenue, gross profit, operating expenses, profitability, cash flow and key performance indicators across the company's 43+ stores.
Analyse store and consolidated financial performance against budgets, forecasts and targets, identify significant variances and provide recommendations to management.
Prepare budgets, cash flow forecasts and financial projections, with particular focus on retail sales, inventory, labour costs, rent, supplier expenses and other operating costs.
Analyse and reconcile financial information from POS systems, including mobile phones, accessories, repairs, EFTPOS and cash sales, and investigate discrepancies between POS, banking and accounting records.
Monitor and analyse inventory, cost of goods sold,
supplier expenditure and international purchasing transactions, including supplier invoices, deposits, shipments and related costs.
Analyse store labour costs, employee attendance, productivity, bonuses and incentive payments and provide financial information to support workforce and performance decisions.
Manage and reconcile taxation and statutory reporting requirements, including BAS, IAS, payroll tax, PAYG withholding, superannuation and Single Touch Payroll across the states in which Star Phones operates.
Perform bank, credit card, balance sheet and intercompany reconciliations, including accruals, prepayments, adjusting entries and period-end financial reporting.
Monitor financial controls and conduct financial analysis and investigations relating to sales, cash handling, suppliers, expenses and unusual transactions, while providing accounting and financial advice to management to improve profitability, cash flow and operational efficiency.
Skills Qualities Required: Strong knowledge of financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, reconciliations and financial analysis.
Experience with POS systems, accounting software such as MYOB, and Microsoft Excel.
Knowledge of Australian taxation and statutory requirements, including BAS, PAYG, superannuation, payroll tax and Single Touch Payroll.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to investigate financial discrepancies and variances.
High level of accuracy, attention to detail and ability to manage financial information confidentially.
Good communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to liaise with management, external accountants, suppliers and other stakeholders.
Ability to work independently, manage competing priorities and meet reporting and compliance deadlines.
