Application requirements are part of the first screening decision. Respect each page limit and make sure the target-question document answers both prompts clearly. A technically strong candidate can still be difficult to assess when the documents repeat one another or leave the evidence buried.
Application Requirements For Senior Developer / Business Analyst
Separate response addressing 2 target questions, maximum 2 pages in total
The two-page question response is the most specific assessment task. Choose examples that give enough technical detail for a specialist reader while still making the business need, stakeholder context and result easy to follow.
Australian citizenship, Australian permanent residency, New Zealand citizenship with a current New Zealand passport, or a valid visa permitting work in Australia
NSW Government Candidate Requirements
This role requires evidence across technology, business analysis and delivery. The areas below are grounded in the applicant profile and duties for this vacancy. Treat them as the organising logic for your cover letter and resume, then use the target questions for your most detailed technical proof.
Candidate Requirements For Senior Developer / Business Analyst At NSW Ministry Of Health
Requirement or evidence area from role
How to demonstrate it
SQL, Power BI and reporting-platform capability Describe the scale and complexity of data you worked with, the SQL logic and transformation approach you used, how you structured data for reporting, and how you checked accuracy and performance.
Complex ICT process and service analysis Use an example from a large service organisation where you reviewed current workflows, information needs and system constraints, then helped improve business performance.
Requirements detailed enough for design and build Show how you elicited, documented and validated business and technical requirements, including workflow,

data collection, application functionality and acceptance expectations.
Testing, delivery quality and project-risk management Explain how you tested or maintained a service-management system, tracked risks and dependencies, and delivered an outcome on time without lowering data or reporting quality.
Communication across technical and senior stakeholders Give evidence of working professionally with executives, managers, subject‐matter experts and developers. Show how you converted technical detail into decisions and kept stakeholder expectations aligned.
The vacancy also asks for at least two years of Developer / Business Analyst experience, with health‐sector experience preferred. Make the duration, setting and technical scope visible in your resume instead of leaving the panel to infer them.
Example Application Structure For Senior Developer / Business Analyst
For this role, you need a cover letter of up to two pages and a separate response to two target questions of up to two pages in total. The cover letter should establish your overall fit without duplicating the technical stories in full. The tables below show how to divide the evidence between the documents.
What to include
Opening paragraph Name the Senior Developer / Business Analyst role and summarise the combination of health, service‐industry, business‐analysis and reporting experience that makes you relevant.
Technical reporting capability Briefly establish your experience with SQL Server, Power BI, Reporting Services, data warehousing, data visualisation, automation and relevant scripting or programming languages.
Business analysis and delivery Explain the scale of the processes and systems you have analysed, how you gathered requirements and how your work supported design, build, testing or reporting delivery.
Stakeholder communication Show how you worked across business and technical groups, handled complex information and kept decisions clear for senior stakeholders.

Essential role requirements State your relevant work eligibility clearly and briefly.
Closing paragraph Reconfirm your interest in supporting oral‐health information systems and explain the practical contribution you could make to reliable performance reporting.
Responses to target questions
Each answer needs a specific example with enough detail to show your own technical decisions. Use the question as the heading, explain the context briefly, then spend most of the space on your method, judgement, problem solving and result.
Target Question
What a strong response would include
Can you provide a past example of when you had to develop a complex SQL data extraction program, what transformation techniques did you use, and how was the data collection structured to work best with Power BI Reports. Can you explain the challenges you encountered and how you solved them. Explain the business need, data sources and scale before describing the SQL extraction logic. Name the transformation techniques, data model or structure used for Power BI, validation checks, performance issues and the specific steps you took to solve technical challenges. Finish with the reporting or service outcome.
Can you provide a past example of when you had to prepare detailed specification documentation which describes business workflow, data collection, and application functionality to facilitate the development of performance reports. Describe how you elicited information, mapped the workflow and documented data collection and application behaviour. Show how you validated the specification with business and technical stakeholders, managed ambiguity or change, and enabled the reporting team to design, build or test the right product.
What the panel will want to see in your examples
Enough SQL and data-transformation detail to prove you completed the technical work
A transparent explanation of how the data structure supported usable Power BI reporting
Specification documents that connected workflow, data and application functionality
Testing, validation and risk controls that protected reporting quality
Business outcomes for service delivery, management or strategic decision‐making
Professional communication with both technical specialists and senior business stakeholders
