Line Management:
This position is responsible in the first instance to the Head of Junior School and ultimately to the Principal.
Duties:
Curriculum -
Oversee the teaching of Australian Curriculum Years 3-5, including all Learning Areas, General Capabilities and the Cross-curriculum priorities and curriculum renewal.
Learning Innovation
– Lead the implementation of best practice in education in literacy, numeracy and other key innovation projects.
Pedagogy Leader –
Support staff
in the application of best practice in pedagogy, as a member of the Learning Innovations team. Expertise in Mathematics, Science of Reading and structured Literacy approaches would be highly regarded.
Position Responsibilities:
Curriculum
Ensure the implementation of the Australian Curriculum Years 3-5, across all Learning areas and Christian Living
Ensure the development of the seven general capabilities across the Years 3-5 learning areas, including Critical and Creative thinking, digital literacy, ethical understanding, intercultural understanding, literacy, numeracy and the Personal and Social Capability
Ensure the Scope and Sequence of the Curriculum (including all three areas) builds on learning in Year 2 and provides a seamless transition to Year 6
Oversee the Cross-curriculum priorities, ensuring that they are incorporated across the Years 3-5 learning areas, providing diverse opportunities to enrich the learning experience for students
Ensure appropriate, rigorous and consistent assessment practices across the Years 3-5 classes (including learning feedback) and support the Director of Learning Innovation (Years PreK-2) in providing quality assurance on academic reporting across Years 3-5
Support staff in ensuring that the needs of diverse learners are met, working with the Leader of Inclusion and Inclusion staff as appropriate
Provide key communication for parents, including leading information sessions, newsletter articles and supporting the Deputy Head of Junior School as required with Years 3-5 events
Provide recommendations for the budget for Years 3-5, including for new programs and resources that align with the School's Strategic direction
Maintain accurate and up to date records of student learning data, including working with the Learning Innovations Team to track whole of school academic data and identify areas of need
Support the transition of students from Year 5 to Middle School, working with the Middle School team to develop student-centred practices and work with the Junior School Leadership team in supporting transition and class placement processes




Learning Innovation
Lead the implementation of best practice in the areas of Literacy and Numeracy, Years 3-5
Inspire creative practices across Years 3-5, that elevate the learning including peak experiences such as Sharecases and exhibitions
In consultation with the Head of Junior School, develop and lead innovative projects that help to realise the Strategic direction of the school
Develop strong partnerships in learning between parents, teachers and students, including through the establishment of learning feedback and reporting practices
Develop strong, data-driven practices and build capacity of Team Leaders to use data to promote best practice
Promote innovation in providing for diverse learners
Lead the development of class pages on the school Portal
Lead and manage NAPLAN in the Junior School as well as the implementation of other standardised assessments such as PAT
Work with the Deputy Principal (Student Engagement), to ensure the articulation and realisation of the Burgmann Keys across the Years 3-5 learning areas
Pedagogy Leader
Support the Team Leaders in the development of all aspects of the Years 3-5 curriculum, including social-emotional programs, camps, transition and excursions
Be an active member of the Learning Innovations Team
Identify and develop best practice in pedagogy that is evidence aligned
Support staff in the development of personal plans and structures to support students with complex learning needs
Contribute to the Professional Learning of staff, including through the Junior School Staff Meetings and provide recommendations for Whole School Professional Learning
Work closely with the School Leadership teams to maintain the focus and development of the Junior School as a professional learning community of the highest quality
Teach the equivalent of up to 0.4FTE by negotiation with the Head of Junior School
Where appropriate, support and supervise the accreditation requirements for ISTAA and TQI, with support from the Deputy Principal (Professional Practice)
Working Relationships
The Director of Learning Innovation Years 3-5 works closely with all Years 3-5 teachers in ensuring the implementation of the full learning and teaching program.
They report to the Head of Junior School and then the Principal. They work closely with the Junior School Leadership team,



including the Deputy Head of Junior School, Leader of Inclusion and Director of Learning Innovation Years PreK-2.
They also work closely with the Deputy Principal (Professional Practice) and are a member of the Learning Innovations team.
Salary, Terms and Conditions
The successful applicant will be employed under the Independent Schools (Teachers) Multi-Enterprise Agreement ****. Salary will be determined according to qualifications and years of experience.
A Leadership Allowance (Level 2) will be paid, commensurate with the responsibility of the position. The position attracts 0.6FTE release time, above the normal release time.
The seniority of the position necessitates that the incumbent may be required to be present on the campus before and beyond the regular timetabled day and sometimes during non-term time. This position also has an after-hours and cocurricular component.
Selection Criteria
The successful applicant will:
Be a qualified teacher and preferably have completed some further study.
Have experience in the implementation of innovative teaching and learning practices, including in change management strategies. Expertise in contemporary Mathematics pedagogy and Science of Reading would be highly regarded.
Have knowledge and experience in best practice in teaching and learning 3-5.
Have high level organisational skills, with the ability to prioritise and manage multiple tasks and to analyse problems and formulate clear and effective soluti
ons. communication skills.
Have demonstrated the ability to lead and work within a team, affecting change within an organisation.
