City Mission is seeking an Assistant Accountant to join our collaborative Finance team.

Reporting to the Manager Finance, you will contribute to the accurate, timely and effective delivery of City Mission's financial services.
This is a varied, hands-on role spanning payroll support, month-end accounting, reconciliations, invoicing, accounts receivable, creditor payments, compliance and financial reporting.
You will also support budgeting and forecasting, audit preparation, grant acquittals and improvements to financial systems and processes.
Your responsibilities will include:
Assisting with payroll processing and ensuring employees are paid accurately and in accordance with relevant employment agreements and awards.
Supporting month-end processes and preparing balance sheet reconciliations.
Issuing invoices and monitoring the debtors ledger.
Providing detailed oversight of weekly creditor payments.
Assisting with GST, FBT, superannuation and taxation compliance.
Supporting budgeting, forecasting and strategic planning activities.




Assisting with internal and external audit preparation.
Supporting grant applications, financial reporting and funding acquittals.
Helping manage insurance claims, EFTPOS facilities and corporate credit cards.
Identifying opportunities to strengthen internal controls and improve financial systems and processes.
About you
You are a dependable and detail-focused finance qualified who takes pride in producing accurate work and meeting deadlines.
You communicate respectfully, build positive working relationships and are comfortable balancing several priorities.
You will ideally bring:
SELECTION CRITERIA:
Essential Qualifications/Experience:
A degree or diploma in accounting, finance or a related discipline.
3 – 5 years' relevant experience in an accounting or finance role, ideally within a medium to large, multifaceted organisation.
Experience with taxation and payroll compliance requirements and internal controls.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
Sound knowledge of general ledger systems—experience with MYOB or a similar platform would be valuable.
The ability to work accurately and effectively to timelines.
The ability to develop positive professional relationships with internal clients and stakeholders.




The ability to obtain and maintain a National Police Check.
Desirable Qualifications/Experience:
Experience supporting separate business units, cost centres or multiple locations.
Advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
CA or CPA qualifications, or progress towards them.
Experience in the not-for-profit or community services sector.
The ability to work confidently and independently.
Experience working within organisational policies and procedures.
A demonstrated capacity to contribute positively within an organisation guided by a Christian ethos.
