### **About Charles Darwin University**
Charles Darwin University's Human Research Ethics Committee (HREC) reviews research projects and other University activities involving or concerning people.
The Committee brings together University staff and community members with diverse perspectives and expertise.
Its membership is structured in accordance with the National Statement on Ethical Conduct in Human Research.
### **The prospect**
CDU is seeking a community member or layperson to contribute an independent, community-based perspective to the Committee's consideration of ethical issues.
As a Committee member, you will participate in discussions about research across areas such as:
- Social science
- Environmental management
- Law
- Business
- Health
- Education
Your contribution will help the Committee consider research from the perspective of the wider community and support the ethical conduct of research involving people.
### **About you**
You may be well suited to this opportunity if you:
- Have an interest in ethical issues relating to human research
- Are willing to express your views and contribute respectfully to group discussions
- Can consider different perspectives with an open and thoughtful approach
- Are not affiliated with Charles Darwin University
- Are not currently involved in medical, scientific, legal or academic work
No specialist research or ethics background is specified for this community position.
### **Time commitment**
The committee meets seven times each year,



approximately every six weeks.
Meetings are held on Wednesdays from 9 am until approximately midday, depending on the number and complexity of applications being considered.
Members should also allow up to six hours for reading and preparation before each meeting.
Meetings can be attended at CDU's Casuarina campus or online via Zoom.

Induction and ongoing training will be provided.
You will be well supported by the Ethics Team and fellow committee members as you learn and carry out your role.
