About the role
We are seeking a caring, patient and experienced Disability Support Worker to provide person-centred support to participants living in a Supported Independent Living environment.
The successful applicant must be able to provide support in a calm, respectful and consistent manner while promoting each participant's choice, control, dignity, independence and quality of life.
This role requires a worker who understands that every participant has different routines, preferences and communication needs.
Staff must be willing to work at the participant's pace rather than rushing or unnecessarily directing them.
Key responsibilities
Supporting morning, evening, night routines
Showering, personal hygiene, dressing and grooming
Continence and pad support, stoma care where trained and authorised
Sound knowledge of Insulin administering.
Meal preparation, mealtime assistance and supervision, hydration support
Medication assistance in accordance with medication authorities
Repositioning and pressure care
Supporting rest and sleep routines
Maintaining a secure and comfortable home environment
Supporting community access, shopping, appointments and social activities
Accurate documentation of personal care, participant choices, food and fluid intake, medication support, continence changes, mood and behaviour, and health concerns
About you
Calm,

Friendly and approachable with good listening skills
Able to communicate clearly using plain English
Efficient with professional case notes / Incident reports
Comfortable allowing participants additional processing and decision-making time
Respectful of participant choices and preferences
Observant and able to recognise changes in mood, behaviour, comfort and wellbeing
Committed to maintaining privacy, dignity and confidentiality
Able to encourage independence rather than automatically completing tasks for participants
Reliable and consistent in following care plans and support instructions
Experience working with Complex Behaviour partricipants
Experience working with Psycho-social Disability participants
NDIS Worker Screening Clearance, Working with Children Check where required, Current First Aid, Current CPR, Manual Handling training, Medication Administration/Medication Assistance training, Relevant mealtime management/dysphagia training where required, Appropriate complex care training where required, Current driver's licence where driving forms part of the position, Appropriate vehicle insurance where a personal vehicle is used for participant support, Completion of required NDIS worker induction and organisational training
