About the role
The State Manager is a senior leadership role responsible for the overall performance, growth and compliance of service maintenance, minor works and business operations across the state.
The role provides strategic and operational oversight to ensure delivery excellence, regulatory compliance, financial performance and customer satisfaction.
The State Manager integrates service delivery and minor works, ensuring a seamless transition between inspection, defect identification, quotation and project execution, while setting and delivering annual sales, service and financial targets and driving ongoing achievement of the state Business Plan.
Key responsibilities
Provide strong leadership across Service, Minor Works, Sales and Customer Service teams, including Service Managers, Field Service Supervisors, Project Managers and field resource
Establish a high-performance, engaged culture aligned with company strategy and values, based on service, teamwork and relationships
Develop capability across the state through coaching, mentoring and structured training programs; provide ongoing coaching and feedback with formal Half Year & Year End Reviews for all direct reports
Lead workforce planning, recruitment, induction and succession planning aligned with business growth objectives, and maintain budgeted headcount for service, sales and administration
Develop and deliver the annual state Business Plan and agreed targets and assignments; achieve annual budgeting and forecasting
Take full accountability for state financial performance, including revenue, margin and cost control against budget objectives
Ensure all inspection, testing and maintenance (ITM) activities are conducted in accordance with relevant legislation, Australian Standards and licensing requirements, by suitably licensed and competent people
Oversee the end-to-end delivery of minor works projects, including defect rectification, upgrades and small-scale installations
Grow the contract portfolio through the development of sales to existing and, especially, new customers, and by limiting contract reductions and terminations
Build and maintain relationships with clients' decision makers to pre-empt potential dissatisfaction, drive retention and seek further sales opportunities
About you
Demonstrated senior operational or regional/state management experience within fire protection, construction or a related technical services industry (5 years essential)
Field/Operations management experience, including management of service maintenance and minor works/project delivery environments (3 years essential)
Clear and proven ability to develop and implement successful sales and trade marketing strategies (3 years preferred)
A commitment to people management and development with a proven ability to build and develop talent (3 years preferred)
Robust negotiating and influencing skills
Experience in the management of staff and successful performance in a previous position
Hands-on management style
Highly numerate and analytical
Strategic thinker with strong business acumen
Sound knowledge of relevant fire protection legislation, Australian Standards and compliance requirements
