Hays is proud to partner with Avenira Limited as they continue building the leadership team for the Wonarah Phosphate Project, set to become the Northern Territory's first phosphate mine. This landmark greenfield development presents a rare prospect to join a growing operation during a pivotal stage of development and play a leading role in shaping the future of mining at Wonarah.

As the Mining Superintendent, you will provide leadership across open pit mining activities, supporting the Mining Manager to safely and efficiently execute the mine plan. This key role is responsible for delivering production targets, maximising equipment performance, developing team capability and maintaining strong operational standards across mining, drill and blast and crushing operations.

About the Opportunity

Reporting to the Mining Manager, you will lead a team of Mining Supervisors and coordinate daily mining activities to safely achieve production targets. Through visible leadership and sound decision-making, you will drive safety, productivity and continuous improvement while fostering accountability and teamwork.

Working closely with Technical Services, Maintenance, HSE and contractor partners, you will support production planning, grade control, contractor performance, cost management and operational readiness. You will also contribute to compliance, emergency response and budget performance.

Key Responsibilities

- Lead open pit mining activities in line with mine plans
- Coach and develop Mining Supervisors and operational teams
- Coordinate mining, drill and blast, crushing and haulage activities
- Drive safety, risk management and compliance
- Conduct pre-starts, toolbox talks and field leadership activities
- Work with Technical Services to optimise mining execution




- Monitor production, fleet performance and operational results
- Support contractor management and stakeholder engagement
- Lead incident investigations and corrective actions
- Drive continuous improvement across safety, productivity and cost performance
- Assist with budgeting, forecasting and cost control
- Provide emergency response leadership when required

About You

To succeed, you will bring:

- Extensive open pit mining leadership experience
- 5+ years' experience in a supervisory or superintendent role
- Strong safety leadership and risk management capability
- Experience leading mining, drill and blast, crushing or load and haul teams
- Proven ability to mentor supervisors and operators
- Contractor management and stakeholder engagement experience
- Exposure to budgeting, forecasting and cost control
- Strong planning, problem-solving and decision-making skills
- Relevant mining qualifications and equipment competencies
- Bulk or strip mining experience highly regarded
- Statutory, emergency response or incident investigation qualifications advantageous
