Are you eager to learn from experienced chefs while gaining hands-on experience in a professional kitchen? Queensland Parliamentary Catering Services is seeking a motivated 1st Year Apprentice Chef to join our team.
Located within the iconic Parliament House precinct, this unique apprenticeship offers the opportunity to develop your cooking skills across cafe operations, dining services, and function catering. Working alongside skilled culinary professionals, you will gain practical experience while undertaking formal training through TAFE, setting a strong foundation for a successful career as a chef.
Key Objectives
- Support the delivery of food and beverage services across the Parliamentary precinct.
- Learn and develop core culinary skills in a professional kitchen environment.
- Maintain high standards of food safety, hygiene, and presentation.
- Successfully complete all apprenticeship and TAFE training requirements.
Your Role
- Assist with basic food preparation, cooking, and presentation of cafe meals and function catering under the guidance of qualified chefs.
- Learn and apply food safety, hygiene, and kitchen cleanliness standards.
- Support the preparation and service of food across a range of dining and catering venues.
- Assist with food storage, stock rotation, and inventory control activities.
- Develop strong teamwork and communication skills while working in a fast-paced environment.
- Complete all TAFE coursework, assessments, and requirements associated with the apprenticeship training contract.
- Ensure tasks are completed efficiently and to agreed timeframes.

- General knowledge of catering, food preparation, presentation, storage, safety, and hygiene practices, or the ability to quickly acquire this knowledge.
- Ability to work with limited supervision and follow instructions.
- Reliable, motivated, and committed to completing an apprenticeship qualification.
