About the Team
The ophthalmology team consists of medical officers (ophthalmologists, fellows, registrars and house officers), allied health professionals (orthoptists and optometrists), ophthalmic nurses and administration officers. The team provide comprehensive paediatric eye care, including general ophthalmology, optometry and orthoptic services complemented by a wide array of sub-specialties (oculoplastics, retinoblastoma, surgical retina, glaucoma, uveitis, anterior segment, oculo-genetics, neuro-ophthalmology).
About the Role
In this role you will deliver quality outcomes for children, young people and families (Leader of Self) in accordance with the Children's Health Queensland Leadership Excellence Framework and the Queensland Public Service and the CHQ values. Your contribution will include:
- Utilise skills in evidence-based practice and establish clinical policies and guidelines based on best available evidence, apply professional judgement to a routine caseload and develop further knowledge and clinical skills to make clinical decisions requiring a decreased level of supervision over time.
- Provide routine Orthoptic advice through interdisciplinary team participation (multidisciplinary assessment, family meetings, and outreach programs) with respect to own caseload.
- Apply well-developed communication,
consultative and interpersonal skills to work effectively with children, parents/carers, multi-disciplinary team members, other health professionals in order to meet service goals and enhance health outcomes.
- Liaise daily with patients and their families, other health professionals, supervisors and students to ensure efficient and appropriate service delivery.
- Provide clinical education and practice supervision to orthoptic and optometry and medical students, as required.
- Participate in quality improvement and clinical research activities that enhance the delivery of ophthalmology services within the Queensland Children's Hospital and relevant multidisciplinary teams.
- Develop clinical practice knowledge and expertise through active learning within a team and by engaging in professional development activities.
