About the Role
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced, hands-on Warehouse Manager to lead operations.
Reporting to the Operations Director, you will oversee day-to-day yard and warehouse activities, ensuring safe handling, efficient storage, and timely dispatch of heavy and bulky materials. This role requires a strong leader comfortable working across both indoor racking and outdoor timber/building product yard environments.
Key Responsibilities
- Yard & Site Operations: Manage receiving, staging, order picking, and heavy load dispatch across indoor racking and outdoor yard spaces.
- Transport & Staging Coordination: Oversee the safe loading/unloading of flatbeds, semi-trailers, and Hiab trucks, ensuring compliance with Chain of Responsibility (CoR) and load restraint guides.
- Team Leadership: Lead, coach, and roster a team of storepeople, yard hands, and forklift operators, driving productivity and site morale.
- Inventory & Stock Control: Conduct cycle counts, manage stock accuracy for bulk and unitized building goods, and minimize product damage during transit.
- Safety & Compliance: Enforce strict WHS standards, site traffic management, and hazard identification across heavy plant, pedestrian zones, and high-reach forklifts.
- Order Fulfilment: Coordinate closely with customer service, trade desk teams, and site managers to meet delivery schedules for commercial and residential build sites.
What We’re Looking For
- Industry Experience: 4+ years in a Warehouse/Yard Management role within building materials, construction supplies, timber, steel, or hardware distribution.
- Equipment Knowledge: Strong background managing sites with high-reach LF forklifts, heavy-capacity trucks, and site traffic flow.
- Load Restraint & CoR: Deep understanding of Heavy Vehicle National Law (HVNL), load restraint practices, and site traffic safety protocols.
- Systems Capability: Experience with WMS or ERP systems (e.g., SAP, NetSuite, Timberline, or similar trade-based platforms).
- Tickets & Licensing: Valid High-Risk Work License (LF) essential; High Risk (LO), Overhead Crane, or First Aid tickets highly regarded.
- Leadership Style: A visible, hands-on manager who leads by example on the floor and in the yard.
