Horizons College of Learning and Enrichment

Caboolture

Join a school where relationships come first.

Horizons College is an independent Special Assistance School based in Caboolture. We support young people for whom mainstream education has not been meaningful, providing small class sizes, individualised support and a learning environment built on respect, structure and genuine care.

We are seeking expressions of interest for one full-time Science Teacher for Term 4, 2026, with teaching responsibilities across both middle school (Years 7–9) and senior years (Years 10–12 Science in Practice).

For the right candidate, there is a genuine opportunity for this contract to extend into 2027.

Why Horizons?

- Small class sizes that allow you to truly know your students

- A solid emphasis on staff and student wellbeing

- A collaborative team culture where your voice is valued

- Access to quality professional development

- Leadership that supports initiative and qualified growth

- A trauma-informed, relationship-centred approach to behaviour and learning

About the Role

This role involves delivering Science across both the middle and senior phases of learning. Science is a hands-on, applied subject — and at Horizons, that practical focus aligns perfectly with how we teach: explicitly, purposefully, and always with the student in mind.

At Horizons, our teachers:

- Build strong, respectful relationships with students

- Deliver differentiated programmes to support diverse learning needs

- Work closely with wellbeing and support staff

- Maintain high expectations within consistent, predictable routines

- Understand that behaviour communicates need — not defiance

This is a position for an educator who believes that science can be a powerful vehicle for engagement, curiosity and confidence — especially for young people who have not always felt successful at school.

About You

To thrive in this role, you will demonstrate:

- Current QLD Teacher Registration

- Confidence teaching Science, with experience or strong interest in Science in Practice

- The ability to deliver practical, hands-on learning in a structured and protected environment

- An ability to differentiate learning for a wide range of abilities and year levels

- Strong relational classroom management skills

- A commitment to contributing positively to a collaborative team

Experience in a Special Assistance School or alternative setting is advantageous but not essential. What matters most is that you bring genuine care, high expectations, and a belief that every student is capable of growth.

How to Apply

If you believe education works best when relationships come first, we would love to hear from you.

Please submit:

- Your Teacher Registration Number

- A cover letter outlining your teaching experience, subject areas and interest in the role

- An up-to-date resume including qualifications and at least two professional referees

Applications will be reviewed as received and interviews may commence prior to the closing date. This position will remain open until filled, with a preferred closing date of 9 September 2026.
