Ports Victoria (PV) is a statutory authority primarily responsible for the safe navigation of commercial vessels in the port waters of Melbourne, Geelong, and Hastings, along with the facilitation of cruise shipping at Station Pier. We provide a critical service for the international and domestic maritime trade needs of Geelong, Melbourne, and south-eastern Australia. About the role

Two great opportunities have arisen to join Ports Victoria as a Vessel Traffic Service (VTS) Officer for a fixed period of 12 months based at either Nth Geelong (Mackey St) or Melbounre (Lorimer St). (There may be a requirement to work at either location on occasion)

You will utilise modern technology to monitor, communicate, and coordinate the day-to-day movement of vessels, while also providing support in emergency response arrangements.

This role requests candidates to be available and work both night and day shifts on a 7-day rotating roster arrangement. The roster provides a excellent work life balance.

Key responsibilities

- Monitor and communicate with vessels within port waters in accordance with local, national,



and international legislation and standards plus the Harbour Masters directions from the Port waters you are operating in.

- Liaise with external stakeholders relevant to shipping and port operations, including pilots, agents, tug providers, port leaseholders, stevedores, and contractors.

- Provide designated functions and requirements of the relevant Port Emergency Management Plan in accordance with policy and procedures.

About you

- Short Range or Long Range Operator Certificate of Proficiency (SROCP or LROCP) - must have.

- Strong attention to detail, accuracy, and the ability to meet required deadlines.

- Perform the role with the highest level of professionalism and integrity.

- Self-motivated, amiable, honest, approachable, with a proactive attitude and good interpersonal skills.

- Excellent verbal communication skills.

- C0103-1 certification (desirable but not essential).

- Working knowledge, or the ability to rapidly acquire working knowledge of the port.

- Appropriate maritime qualifications (Master V or relevant experience) would be advantageous.

- Exposure to emergency and environmental response procedures.

- Availability for both night and day shifts on a 7-day rotating roster arrangement.
