The City of Salisbury is seeking an enthusiastic and community-minded Community Shed and Garden Facilitator in a part-time (0.8 FTE) capacity for a 3-year fixed term contract to coordinate the day-to-day operations of The Hive Community Shed and Garden.
Reporting to the Team Leader Community Diversity and Inclusion, you will create a safe, welcoming and inclusive environment that fosters social connection, lifelong learning, wellbeing, skill sharing and community participation. Working closely with volunteers, participants, community groups and Council staff, you will deliver engaging activities that encourage people to learn recent skills, build confidence, develop relationships and strengthen their connection to the community.
Your key responsibilities will include:
- Coordinate the day-to-day operations of The Hive Community Shed and Garden.
- Plan, coordinate and deliver a range of community programs, workshops and activities.
- Facilitate a welcoming and inclusive environment that encourages participation and social connection.
- Engage and support people from diverse backgrounds, including older adults, people living with disability, culturally diverse communities and socially isolated residents.
- Recruit, induct, support and recognise volunteers in accordance with Council policies and procedures.
- Foster a positive volunteer culture focused on safety, inclusion and collaboration.
- Encourage skills sharing, mentoring and peer learning opportunities.
- Coordinate bookings, equipment use, maintenance requirements and inventory management.
- Monitor tools and equipment to ensure they are maintained and compliant with safety requirements.
- Promote the Community Shed and Garden through community networks, events and communication channels.
- Develop and maintain positive relationships with community members, volunteers, organisations and local partners.
- Maintain accurate participation, volunteer and program records and contribute to reporting and continuous improvement activities.

You are a practical, proactive and people-focused individual who enjoys working with diverse communities and creating opportunities for people to connect, learn and contribute.
With a passion for community development and social inclusion, you can build positive relationships, encourage participation and create welcoming environments where people feel valued, supported and empowered to share their skills and experiences.
You will also have:
- Demonstrated practical skills relevant to a community garden, shed or workshop environment.
- Experience facilitating group programs, workshops or community activities.
- Knowledge of Work Health and Safety principles, risk assessments and safe operating practices relevant to a community shed and garden environment.
- Strong interpersonal, communication and relationship-building skills.
- Experience engaging and supporting people from diverse backgrounds.
- Sound understanding of inclusive, strengths-based and person-centred approaches.
- Strong organisational and administrative skills.
- Current First Aid Certificate or willingness to obtain.
- Current National Police Clearance Certificate.
- Current Working With Children's Check.
- NDIS Worker Screening Clearance.
Highly regarded:
- Qualifications or relevant experience in a trade, community services, disability support, social work, youth work or a related field.
- Experience working within a Men's Shed, Community Shed, Community Garden or similar community-based environment.
- Experience coordinating volunteers.
- Understanding of community development principles.
- Experience supporting participant-led or co-designed programs.

Eligibility
A Nationally Coordinated Criminal History Check and relevant screening clearances are required for this position.
This role requires flexibility to support community participation activities, including working one Saturday per month and occasional out-of-hours community events and programs.
