Horizons College of Learning and Enrichment

Caboolture

Could Horizons be the school you've been looking for?

Horizons College is an independent Special Assistance School based in Caboolture. We support young people for whom mainstream education has not been meaningful — providing small class sizes, individualised support and a learning environment built on respect, structure and genuine care.

We are inviting expressions of interest from passionate secondary teachers across all subject areas for full-time positions commencing in 2027 at our Caboolture Campus.

If you've ever felt like the mainstream system wasn't letting you teach the way you know students need to be taught — this might be worth a conversation.

Why Horizons?

- Small class sizes that allow you to truly know your students

- A strong emphasis on staff and student wellbeing

- A collaborative team culture where your voice is valued

- Access to quality professional development

- Leadership that supports initiative and professional growth

- A trauma-informed, relationship-centred approach to behaviour and learning

About the School

Horizons College is not a traditional school — and that's the point. Our students are young people who have disengaged from mainstream education for a wide range of reasons. Many carry complex histories. All of them deserve an educator who sees their potential, not just their challenges.

Our approach is grounded in trauma-informed and relational practice, underpinned by the Science of Learning. We use explicit instruction, scaffolding and retrieval practice to deliver high-quality, evidence-based teaching in an workplace where relationships come first.

When you join Horizons, you join a team that genuinely believes every student is capable of growth — and works every day to prove it.

Who We're Looking For

We welcome expressions of interest from secondary teachers across all learning areas. Whether you are an experienced educator ready for a new challenge, or a teacher earlier in your career who is drawn to this kind of work — we want to hear from you.

To thrive at Horizons, you will bring:

- Current QLD Teacher Registration

- A genuine interest in working with young people who have complex or diverse needs

- Strong relational classroom management skills

- The ability to differentiate learning for a wide range of abilities and year levels

- A collaborative mindset and a willingness to grow

- A belief that behaviour communicates need — not defiance

Experience in a Special Assistance School or alternative setting is advantageous but not essential. What matters most is that you bring the right values and a genuine commitment to making a difference.

How to Apply

If Horizons sounds like the school you've been looking for, we'd love to start a conversation.

Please submit:

- Your Teacher Registration Number

- A cover letter telling us about your teaching areas, your experience and what draws you to Horizons

- An up-to-date resume including qualifications and at least two professional referees

Expressions of interest will be reviewed on an ongoing basis. Suitable candidates may be contacted for an informal conversation prior to any formal interview process.
