About the role
Foundation Training Australia (FTA) is a Registered Training Organisation based in Norman Park, Brisbane, delivering practical, industry-focused training across the building and construction sector.
We're looking for Construction Trainers and Assessors with strong industry experience in Carpentry, ideally combined with knowledge and experience in Waterproofing and/or Wall and Floor Tiling.
You might already be an experienced Trainer and Assessor. Or you might be an accomplished tradesperson who's spent years on the tools, mentoring apprentices and showing others how to do the job properly, and you're ready for the next stage of your career.
If you know your trade and enjoy passing that knowledge on, we'd like to hear from you.
This is an opportunity to stay connected to the construction industry without being on the tools every day, using your experience to help develop the next generation of skilled tradespeople.
What you'll be doing
This is a practical, workplace-based training role. Rather than spending every day in a classroom, you'll work directly with students and apprentices in real construction environments.
You'll generally plan and complete administration from home before visiting students on their job sites to train, observe and assess their skills.
You'll be responsible for:
- Delivering quality, practical training and assessment through face-to-face workplace visits and online and on the job assessments
- Managing an allocated cohort of students, with support from the FTA Training Department to coordinate workplace visits and meet administration requirements
- Sharing your industry knowledge and experience to help students develop confidence, competence and pride in their trade
- Delivering pre-designed, engaging and industry-relevant training and assessment across construction qualifications and units of competency
- Demonstrating practical construction techniques and helping students build their skills on the job
- Assessing student knowledge and practical skills against nationally recognised competency requirements
- Ensuring training reflects current industry practices, standards, safety requirements and workplace expectations
You'll have the independence to manage your students and schedule while being backed by an experienced training team when you need support.
What we're looking for
First and foremost, we're looking for someone with strong, hands-on construction experience who enjoys helping others become better at their trade.
Ideally, you'll bring:
- Significant hands-on experience within the building and construction industry
- Relevant trade qualifications and demonstrated experience in Carpentry, Waterproofing and/or Wall and Floor Tiling
- A Certificate IV in Training and Assessment, or a willingness to obtain the required training and assessment qualification
- A strong understanding of current construction practices, standards and safety requirements
- A practical, hands-on approach to teaching, training and assessment
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- The ability to work independently and manage your responsibilities
- A desire to build a long-term career as part of a strong and supportive team
Previous experience within an RTO or delivering vocational training is highly regarded, but don't rule yourself out if you've never formally been a trainer.
What we offer
At Foundation Training Australia, we value the knowledge and experience that skilled construction professionals can bring to the education space.
In this role, you can expect:
- A long term position with a supportive team culture
- Competitive remuneration based on qualifications and industry experience
- Full-time and contract opportunities
- Company car and fuel card
- Business phone and computer package
- Ongoing professional development and support
- Support from an experienced FTA training team
- A collaborative and supportive workplace culture
- Independence and flexibility in managing your students and workplace visits
- The opportunity to remain connected to your trade without being on the tools every day
- The chance to make a genuine difference by passing your knowledge and experience on to the next generation
Ready to make the move from doing the job to teaching it?
You don't need to leave your trade knowledge behind to start a current career.
Your years on the tools are exactly what could make you a great trainer.
Whether you're an experienced Trainer and Assessor or a skilled tradesperson considering education for the first time, we'd like to hear from you.
Apply now and tell us about your trade experience, qualifications and what you could bring to Foundation Training Australia.
