We are seeking an experienced Production Supervisor to lead a hands-on manufacturing team specialising in the fabrication, machining and assembly of modular containers and structures.
This is an ideal opportunity for a practical, experienced manufacturing leader who understands metal fabrication and machining processes and enjoys being actively involved on the workshop floor. You will lead a team of fabricators, welders, machinists and production personnel, ensuring projects are completed safely, efficiently and to the required quality standards.
About the Role
As Production Supervisor, you will oversee the day-to-day manufacturing operations associated with the fabrication, machining, modification and assembly of modular containers.
Working closely with the production team, you will coordinate labour, materials, machinery and workflow to ensure manufacturing schedules are achieved. This is a hands-on leadership position, requiring someone who is comfortable getting involved in fabrication and machining activities while providing direction and support to the wider team.
You will be responsible for maintaining production standards, resolving workshop issues and ensuring completed modular units are delivered on time and to specification.
Key Responsibilities
- Supervise, lead and motivate a team of fabricators, welders,
machinists and production workers.
- Coordinate the day-to-day manufacture, modification and assembly of modular containers and steel structures.
- Remain hands-on and actively assist with fabrication, welding, machining, cutting, drilling, fitting and assembly when required.
- Plan and coordinate workshop activities to ensure production schedules and project deadlines are achieved.
- Read and interpret engineering drawings, fabrication drawings and specifications.
- Coordinate materials, components and consumables required for fabrication and machining activities.
- Monitor workflow across fabrication, machining, assembly and finishing stages.
- Ensure machinery, tooling and workshop equipment are available and suitable for production requirements.
- Identify and troubleshoot fabrication, machining and production issues and implement practical solutions.
- Conduct quality inspections throughout the manufacturing process to ensure work meets drawings, specifications and customer requirements.
- Monitor production output, labour utilisation, material usage and key production KPIs.
- Train, coach and mentor team members to improve technical capability, productivity and quality.
- Ensure welding, fabrication, machining and assembly activities are completed in accordance with required safety and quality standards.
- Maintain a clean, safe and organised workshop and ensure compliance with WHS requirements.
- Work closely with engineering, procurement, maintenance and project teams to resolve production issues and maintain workflow.
- Identify opportunities to improve fabrication processes, machining efficiency, material utilisation and overall workshop productivity.
- Manage and coordinate final assembly,
preparation and load‑out of completed modular containers.
- Support after-hours production and load‑out activities when required.
About You
We are looking for a hands‑on Production Supervisor with a strong fabrication and machining background who can lead from the front and understands the practical requirements of manufacturing modular structures.
You will ideally have:
- Previous experience supervising or leading a fabrication, machining or manufacturing workshop.
- Strong practical experience in metal fabrication and machining.
- Experience working with steel structures, containers, modular buildings or similar fabricated products will be highly regarded.
- A strong understanding of welding, cutting, drilling, fitting, machining and general workshop processes.
- The ability to read and interpret engineering and fabrication drawings.
- A practical, hands‑on approach to leadership with the ability to work alongside tradespeople.
- Strong knowledge of workshop machinery, tooling and production equipment.
- Excellent communication, leadership and people‑management skills.
- Strong problem‑solving skills and the ability to resolve production issues quickly.
- The ability to coordinate multiple projects, priorities and production deadlines.
- A strong commitment to safety, quality and workmanship.
- Experience monitoring production KPIs, workflow and labour productivity.
- A trade background in Boilermaking, Fabrication, Fitting & Machining or a related discipline would be highly advantageous.
