Adelaide

Female Disability Support Worker for female participant | West Lakes, SA

Casual, ongoing · Weekday mornings & afternoons + weekend support

About us

Novara Support Co is a dedicated provider of community, disability support across Adelaide. We're driven by a simple belief: that everyone deserves to live independently, with dignity, and connected to the community around them. Through compassionate, person-centred care, we work every day to improve the lives of the people we support and to build stronger communities in the process.

About the role

We're seeking experienced, calm and dependable female Disability Support Workers to provide 1:1 support to a 10-year-old girl in the West Lakes area, living with autism and complex support needs. You'll support her both at home and in the community, across weekday mornings and afternoons, plus weekend shifts ongoing, consistent work where familiar faces matter.

She's funny, imaginative and full of personality, with a love of music, animals and creative play. She also experiences the world intensely and can become dysregulated and display behaviours of concern. What she needs is a small, steady team of skilled people who bring patience, consistency and a genuinely relationship-based approach — and who understand that trust is built slowly and shift by shift.

This is a role for someone with real experience in this space. For the right person, it's also one of the most rewarding you'll find. One or more positions are available to cover the weekly roster.

What you'll be doing

- Providing 1:1 support in the home and community, built around her needs and interests

- Following and applying her positive behaviour support / risk mitigation plan consistently

- Supporting emotional regulation and using established de-escalation strategies

- Keeping the environment calm, predictable and low demand

- Assisting with daily routines, personal care and community participation

- Completing accurate, factual case notes, behaviour records (ABC) and incident reports after each shift

- Working closely with the family, support coordinator and behaviour support practitioner

What we're looking for
- This role is open to female applicants only, as a genuine occupational requirement based on the participant's and family's support needs (in line with equal opportunity provisions)

- Demonstrated experience supporting children and/or participants with complex behaviours of concern (such as aggression, absconding or self-injurious behaviour) — this is essential

- Experience applying behaviour support strategies and de-escalation techniques

- A calm, patient and consistent manner, with strong emotional resilience under pressure

- A genuine commitment to relationship-based, person-centred support

- Reliability and a commitment to ongoing, consistent shifts

- Sound judgement, the ability to work independently, and the discipline to follow a support plan closely

- Transparent, professional written communication for accurate documentation

- A strong understanding of, and commitment to, child safety,

confidentiality and dignity

Desirable
- Certificate III or IV in Individual Support, Disability or Community Services

- Experience supporting children with autism and sensory processing needs

- Familiarity with ABC behaviour data and NDIS incident reporting

- An interest or background in music, animals or creative and sensory activities

What you'll need (NDIS requirements)

Have these, or be willing to obtain them before commencing:

- NDIS Worker Screening Check (cleared)

- Working with Children Check (WWCC) — this role supports a child

- NDIS Worker Orientation Module certificate

- Current First Aid & CPR

- A valid Australian driver's licence and a reliable, insured vehicle

- The right to work in Australia

What we offer

We value our people, and we back them. You'll join a collaborative, supportive team with a coordinator and behaviour support practitioner working alongside you. We offer ongoing, consistent shifts, role-specific induction and training rather than a generic run-through, and the chance to do work that genuinely matters. When you make a difference here, you'll see it in one young girl and her family.

Apply now

If you're an experienced, compassionate female support worker whose confident supporting complex needs and ready to commit to consistent, meaningful work, we'd love to hear from you. Send through your resume and a short cover letter telling us about your relevant experience with complex support and why this work matters to you.

Join Novara Support - where we create new beginnings. Be part of the start of something meaningful for a young participant and her family.
