About the role

The Restorative Justice Research Assistant will support the delivery of a research project examining restorative justice pathways for victims and survivors of sexual violence, with a particular focus on First Nations victims and survivors. The role will provide research, stakeholder engagement and project support while ensuring all work is undertaken in a culturally secure and trauma-informed manner.

Key responsibilities

- Conduct desktop research and literature reviews on restorative justice approaches and related issues.

- Assist with stakeholder and community consultation activities, including engagement with Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisations (ACCOs), Aboriginal community members and people with lived experience.

- Coordinate research materials, records and project documentation.

- Collect, manage and maintain research data in accordance with project protocols, privacy requirements and confidentiality standards.

- Assist with the preparation of reports, briefing papers and project updates.

- Build and maintain effective relationships with project partners, stakeholders and community representatives.





- Participate in team meetings and contribute to project planning and delivery.

- Undertake intrastate travel as required.

About you

- Relevant tertiary qualification in social sciences, law, criminology, Indigenous studies, community development or a related field, or equivalent experience.

- Experience supporting research projects, including literature reviews and report writing.

- Strong written communication and organisational skills.

- Ability to manage information accurately and maintain confidentiality.

- Understanding of trauma-informed practice.

- Demonstrated cultural awareness and ability to work respectfully with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and communities.

- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to engage effectively with diverse stakeholders.

- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and online research tools.

- Current National Police Check and Working with Children Check, or willingness to obtain.

- Current Driver's Licence.
