Assistant Finance Director - Government | 2-Month Contract | Hybrid (3-4 Days WFH)

The Opportunity

An opportunity has arisen for an experienced Assistant Finance Director to join a government department on a 2-month contract. This role offers a highly adaptable hybrid working arrangement (3-4 days WFH) and the chance to step into a senior leadership position within a complex environment.

The Role

Reporting into the Finance Director, this position will support the leadership of the finance function, ensuring strong financial governance, reporting, and operational performance. You will play a key role in overseeing team outputs, providing strategic insight, and maintaining high standards across financial management.

Key Responsibilities

- Support the Finance Director in leading the finance function
- Oversee financial reporting, budgeting, and forecasting processes
- Ensure compliance with government frameworks, policies, and controls
- Provide strategic financial advice to senior stakeholders
- Lead, mentor, and support finance team members




- Drive improvements across financial processes and reporting
- Assist with managing audit requirements and stakeholder expectations

About the Candidate

- Proven experience in a senior finance leadership role within a complex organisation
- Strong technical accounting and financial management expertise
- Experience operating within government or similarly regulated environments highly regarded
- Strong stakeholder management and communication skills
- Ability to quickly add value in a short-term contract environment
- Proactive, adaptable, and solutions-focused approach
