D'Arcy Weil is recruiting an Energy Market Risk Analyst on behalf of a major integrated energy business. This is an outstanding prospect for an experienced quantitative risk professional to influence how market risk is measured, governed and managed across electricity, financial and carbon markets.
This position sits within an established second-line market risk function, partnering closely with wholesale trading, treasury, finance and technology teams to provide independent oversight while helping evolve analytical capability through automation, modelling and advanced risk analytics.
The Opportunity
- Develop and enhance market risk frameworks covering wholesale electricity, financial derivatives and environmental products.
- Build sophisticated quantitative models measuring portfolio exposure, market risk, funding requirements and stress scenarios.
- Monitor trading positions, VaR, exposure limits, liquidity and counterparty risk across diverse energy portfolios.
- Produce insightful risk reporting that supports commercial decisions while ensuring robust governance.
- Challenge trading strategies through independent quantitative analysis and scenario testing.
- Drive automation and continuous improvement across risk systems, controls and reporting capability.
- Partner with traders, finance, treasury, technology and executive stakeholders to provide timely commercial risk intelligence.
- Contribute to strategic initiatives supporting Australia's rapidly evolving energy transition.
About You
You'll combine strong quantitative capability with genuine commercial understanding of Australia's wholesale electricity markets.
You'll ideally possess:
- Degree in Finance, Economics, Engineering, Mathematics, Data Science or another quantitative discipline.
- Demonstrated experience within energy market risk, trading analytics or quantitative risk.
- Strong understanding of the National Electricity Market, including spot pricing, hedging strategies, financial contracts and portfolio optimisation.
- Experience analysing electricity derivatives, PPAs, caps, swaps, futures or environmental products.
- Advanced Python, SQL and Power BI capability, with excellent Excel modelling skills.
- Experience building or significantly improving risk models, governance frameworks or analytical tools.
- Solid communication skills with the ability to explain complex quantitative outcomes to commercial stakeholders.
