About Us
Walhallow Local Aboriginal Land Council (WLALC) is a community-driven organisation dedicated to the protection, management, and promotion of Aboriginal culture, heritage, and land. As part of our Walhallow Indigenous Rangers Program , we are seeking dedicated individuals to join our team and contribute to meaningful land and water management on Gamilaroi Country .
About the Role
We are looking for passionate Indigenous Rangers (female-specific) to be part of the Walhallow Land and Water Management Rangers Group . This program focuses on caring for Country , blending traditional cultural knowledge with contemporary environmental conservation practices.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct land and water conservation activities , including cultural burning, revegetation, pest and weed management, and soil conservation.
- Assist with the protection and maintenance of sacred sites and cultural heritage areas .
- Engage in environmental monitoring and sustainable resource management .
- Work closely with Traditional Owners, Elders, and the community to integrate cultural knowledge into ranger activities.
- Support educational programs, mentoring initiatives, and community engagement .
- Collaborate with other ranger programs, government agencies, and environmental organisations.
About You
We are seeking female candidates who are passionate about land management, culture, and heritage conservation . This is an Identified Indigenous Position ,
meaning only applicants who identify as Aboriginal and/ or Torres Strait Islander will be considered.
Essential Criteria:
- Strong connection to Gamilaroi Country and commitment to caring for Country .
- Understanding of Aboriginal culture, traditions, and environmental management practices.
- Experience in land and environmental conservation or willingness to undertake training.
- Ability to work outdoors in various conditions and undertake physical tasks.
- Good communication and teamwork skills to work effectively with the community and stakeholders.
- Willingness to undertake training in conservation and land management .
Desirable Criteria:
- Experience in a ranger or land management role.
- Formal qualifications or training in conservation, land management, or environmental science .
- Experience working with Elders, Traditional Owners, or community groups.
- A current driver’s licence and ability to travel within the region.
