Laboratory Technician Traineeship

Programmed, in partnership with Yara Pilbara, is offering an exciting opportunity for people in the Karratha community to undertake a two-year Laboratory Technician Traineeship while gaining a nationally recognised qualification, hands-on industry experience and a full-time wage.

This is an opportunity to learn on the job, develop practical laboratory skills and build the foundations for a career in laboratory operations, science and the resources industry.

ABOUT YARA PILBARA

Situated on the scenic Burrup Peninsula, Yara Pilbara hosts one of the world's largest ammonia production facilities, supplying fertiliser to support global agricultural needs. Adjacent to the fertilizer plant is the Technical Ammonium Nitrate (TAN) Plant, producing essential products for the Australian mining sector.

Yara Pilbara is also spearheading initiatives in Western Australia to establish a groundbreaking renewable hydrogen hub in the Pilbara region.

ABOUT THE ROLE

Over the two-year program, you will work towards a nationally recognised Certificate IV in Laboratory Techniques.

You'll receive a combination of hands-on workplace experience and formal training, working alongside experienced laboratory professionals while developing the technical skills required to work safely and effectively in an operational laboratory setting.

Throughout the traineeship, you'll learn how to:

- Perform routine sampling and testing of materials and products;
- Prepare, record and analyse laboratory data;
- Use a range of laboratory equipment and techniques;




- Assist with maintaining and calibrating laboratory equipment;
- Support more complex testing procedures under supervision;
- Follow laboratory quality control systems and procedures; and
- Apply safe work practices in a laboratory and industrial environment.

You don't need previous laboratory experience - we're looking for people with the right attitude, an interest in science, attention to detail and a genuine willingness to learn.

ABOUT YOU

We're looking for applicants who:

- Have completed Year 12 or an equivalent qualification;
- Have a genuine interest in science, laboratory work and how things work;
- Have strong attention to detail and take pride in producing accurate work;
- Are reliable, motivated and committed to learning;
- Enjoy working as part of a team;
- Communicate clearly and confidently with others;
- Have a strong commitment to safety and following procedures;
- Are willing to ask questions, solve problems and learn new technical skills;
- Are committed to completing the required training and TAFE studies;
- Can meet the requirements of a pre-employment medical and drug and alcohol screening; and
- Are an Australian Citizen or Permanent Resident.
