Why You Should Apply
This is an ASX-listed business adjacent to mining, infrastructure, energy and construction with operations across the east coast. The finance function is lean and genuinely close to the business, sitting inside the operations it supports rather than issuing numbers from a distance.
The mandate is to turn transactional finance into commercial input the operations team can use to make decisions, not simply report on what has already happened.
This suits a finance skilled who wants to sit close to operations and be measured on the calls they help operators make, not just the accuracy of the numbers themselves.
The Opportunity
You will report to the Financial Controller with regular exposure to the CFO. The role sits between finance and operations, acting as the primary link for a network of operational sites across Queensland and New South Wales. It exists to produce accurate monthly numbers, credible commercial input on pricing and contract profitability, and a level of trust with site leaders that makes finance part of the decision, not an afterthought.
This is a five day a week, in office role, with no work from home component. You will be on the phone and in Teams meetings regularly with non finance operational stakeholders, some of whom will ask basic questions more than once, and the expectation is that you make time for it regardless of how stretched month end gets. If you want a role where finance stays inside the finance team, this is not it.
What You'll Do
The role splits across three things: monthly financial control for the site network, commercial support for pricing and contracts, and finance's day to day link with operational leaders.
- Prepare monthly P&L; across the site network, including intercompany, revenue and cost accruals
- Manage balance sheet items including the asset register, accruals, debtors,
creditors and the purchase order process
- Partner with the General Manager and site Business Managers to translate transactional data into decisions
- Support pricing, quote and rate reviews to protect and improve contract profitability
- Prepare capital expenditure business cases and apply enterprise agreement rates to labour cost modelling
- Coordinate budget and forecast inputs directly with site leaders each quarter
- Assess and help execute business improvement initiatives, reporting back on outcomes
- Improve purchase to pay processes in partnership with the support office team
Who You Are
Behaviour matters more here than a technical checklist. The business needs someone who stays available and calm when site teams are under pressure, and who can explain a number to someone who has never opened a P&L.; The technical foundation underneath that has to be solid.
- Comfortable being the person site teams call first, not last
- Able to explain financial detail clearly to non finance stakeholders
- Deadline driven, accurate, and unbothered by a demanding monthly close
- Degree qualified in accounting, business or commerce, CPA or CA qualified
- Five or more years in a business partnering or management accounting role within an operational environment
- Advanced Excel, comfortable manipulating and analysing large data sets
- Large ERP & Power BI experience useful, not essential
The Offer
A commensurate remuneration depending on experience, five days onsite in Brisbane, free onsite parking, and a stable operational business to build a long term track record in. You walk away with multi-site P&L; ownership and direct commercial exposure that is hard to find this early in a business partnering career.
