Key responsibilities
- Providing direct nursing care and monitoring to patients in the immediate post-operative period, including vital sign monitoring and pain management
- Assessing and responding to patients' physiological and psychological needs as they recover from anaesthesia
- Collaborating effectively with anaesthetists, surgeons, theatre staff and other healthcare professionals to ensure seamless patient transitions
- Maintaining detailed and accurate patient records and documentation in accordance with healthcare standards and regulations
- Managing post-operative complications and responding promptly to changes in patient condition
- Preparing patients for discharge or transfer to the appropriate care setting,
providing relevant post-operative instructions and education
- Maintaining a safe and clean recovery workplace, including equipment maintenance and infection control procedures
- Supporting patients and families through the recovery process with compassionate communication and emotional support
- Contributing to continuous quality improvement initiatives and participating in team debriefs and staff development activities
What we're looking for
- Current registration as a Registered Nurse (RN) with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia (NMBA)
- Demonstrated experience working in a recovery, PACU or post-operative care setting
- Strong knowledge of post-anaesthetic care principles, recovery protocols and potential post-operative complications
- Proficiency in monitoring and interpreting vital signs and patient responses to recovery
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary team environment
- Ability to remain calm and organised under pressure whilst prioritising patient safety and care
- Current knowledge of relevant legislation, standards and best practice guidelines in recovery nursing
- Commitment to ongoing professional development and maintaining current CPR and first aid certifications
- Preferred: Previous experience working in a day hospital or private hospital setting
- Preferred: Certification or specialisation in perioperative nursing or recovery nursing
