Senior Dental Assistant

About the role

As a Senior Dental Assistant, you will work closely with our dentists, Practice Manager and clinical team to deliver high-quality patient care while ensuring the smooth and efficient running of the clinical areas.

In this senior role, you will also support, train and mentor less-experienced Dental Assistants, helping them build confidence and capability in chairside assisting, sterilisation, infection control and clinical workflows. You will lead by example, reinforcing the practice’s systems, procedures and standards to ensure consistency across the team.

We are seeking an experienced Dental Assistant who is confident in their clinical skills, takes pride in maintaining high standards, and enjoys supporting the development of others.

Key responsibilities

- Chairside assisting across a range of general and complex dental procedures

- Supporting dentists during busy clinical sessions

- Training, onboarding and mentoring less-experienced Dental Assistants

- Providing guidance on chairside assisting, sterilisation, infection control and clinical workflows

- Reinforcing and modelling the practice’s procedures, systems and standards

- Preparing and turning over treatment rooms efficiently

- Maintaining sterilisation and infection-control standards

- Ensuring clinical areas are clean, organised and well presented

- Assisting with stock control, ordering and supply management

- Supporting smooth day-to-day clinical operations





- Identifying training or support needs within the team and escalating to the Practice Manager where appropriate

- Raising operational, equipment or workflow issues with the Practice Manager

- Delivering a welcoming, professional and positive patient experience

- Supporting the wider team as required

About you

We are looking for someone who:

- Has solid experience as a Dental Assistant

- Is confident in chairside assisting across a range of procedures

- Enjoys supporting, training and mentoring others

- Leads by example and maintains high clinical and professional standards

- Is reliable, punctual and hardworking

- Is friendly, skilled and well presented

- Communicates clearly and respectfully with patients and team members

- Is highly organised and able to work efficiently in a busy environment

- Takes pride in maintaining a clean and well-run clinical space

- Works well within established systems and procedures

- Knows when to escalate issues appropriately to the Practice Manager

- Is a positive team player who supports others when needed

Skills and experience

- Previous Dental Assistant experience is essential

- Experience in a Senior or Lead Dental Assistant role is highly regarded

- Experience training or mentoring Dental Assistants is highly regarded





- Experience across a broad range of dental procedures is advantageous

- Experience with CEREC, digital dentistry, implants or surgical procedures is an advantage

- Experience with Dental4Windows is desirable but not essential

- Strong knowledge of infection control and sterilisation procedures is essential

- Certificate III and/or IV in Dental Assisting is not essential
