About the role

The Mechanical Draftsperson will be responsible for all stages of the design & documentation. It includes producing accurate mechanical drawings, 3D models, technical documentation and design information that support the manufacture, assembly, maintenance and improvement of CDS equipment. The role ensures all design outputs are practical, controlled, compliant with relevant design standards and aligned with business priorities. The role contributes to product reliability and scalability by translating engineering concepts, workshop feedback and product requirements into clear design documentation.

Key responsibilities include:

- Produce and update 3D models, 2D manufacturing drawings, concept drawings, layouts and proposal drawings to support CDS equipment design.

- Annotate, dimension and verify drawings so that manufacturing, assembly and service requirements are clear and accurate.

- Ensure drawings include relevant materials, tolerances, finishes, revisions and design details.

- Apply relevant technical drawing standards, including AS1100 where applicable,



and CDS design/document standards.

- Review drawings and models for accuracy, manufacturability, maintainability and consistency before release.

- Support design reviews, prototype testing and design validation activities as required.

- Assist with material lists, quantities, bills of materials and cost estimates for design and production activities.

- Liaise with production, suppliers and contractors to clarify design information and resolve practical manufacturing questions.

- Incorporate approved feedback from workshop, service and technology teams into controlled drawing updates.

Skills, knowledge & experience required:

- Diploma of Engineering Drafting, mechanical drafting qualification, trade background or equivalent experience.

- Demonstrated an advanced level of capability with SolidWorks.

- Good understanding of relevant technical drawing standards, including AS1100 where applicable.

- Outstanding ability to interpret workshop requirements, engineering concepts and production feedback.

- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Word and Excel.

- Strong attention to detail and accuracy in drawings, models and document control.

- Clear written and verbal communication skills and ability to work independently or as part of a cross-functional team.

Other experience and skills that will be desirable, but not essential:

- Strong aptitude for mechanical reasoning (problem-solving), calculations, and mathematics.

- Technical experience within a manufacturing environment.
