Your new role
The City is seeking a motivated, experienced, and forward-thinking Coordinator Statutory Planning to join our team. In this key role, you will be responsible for leading and delivering positive planning outcomes and driving new initiatives within our Statutory Planning team.
This is an exciting and diverse role in which you will be able to broaden your planning experience in an innovative and vibrant metropolitan local government.
Reporting to the Manager City Planning & Economic Development, you will undertake a wide variety
of interesting work including:
- Coordinate the daily operations of the Statutory Planning Services team, including distribution of work, determination of applications under the relevant delegation of authority and training of staff.
- Provide team members and management with high quality technical advice and professional support to resolve issues.
- Ensure that applications and customer requests are efficiently processed and that information is sought from relevant staff within the City of Canning.
- Investigate and resolve complex planning matters.
- Prepare items for Council meetings and attend meetings when required.
- Lead continuous improvement within the team and seek innovation where possible.
- Represent the City at events, committees, and the State Administrative Tribunal with the support of legal representation, where relevant.
- Take a lead role and/or assist in the project management, carrying out and co-ordination of urban regeneration; innovation and strategic land use planning projects as required.
- Work flexibly across the statutory and strategic planning functions, taking on and delivering nominated strategic planning work and redeploying to meet peaks in demand in either function as directed, reflecting the increasingly integrated nature of the City’s planning workload.
What you will need to succeed
- A tertiary qualification recognised as suitable for entry into the Planning Institute of Australia.
- Substantial practical experience in statutory/strategic planning.
- A customer focused, authentic, leadership style.
- Robust commitment to innovation, and continuous improvement.
- A desire to challenge the status quo.
- Detailed knowledge of and ability to interpret legislation, planning principles and practices.
- An analytical mindset – you research topics thoroughly, develop strategies and implement solutions for complex planning matters.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with proven ability to negotiate with and influence different stakeholders.
- At least three years' experience in a supervisory or leadership role.
- A current Satisfactory National Police Clearance.
