Hobart City Mission (HCM) walks alongside people in Southern Tasmania, connecting them to the supports they need to live the life they choose.
Our Mountain View program provides supported housing for people who have been experiencing homelessness or hardship. There are 32 units at Mountain View with support staff to help nurture a robust sense of community as well as developing new skills and hobbies.
We are looking for a dynamic and professional ‘people person’ to join our Mountain View team as an Activities and Support Worker. Building and maintaining positive, professional relationships with residents and Program Leader.
About the role:
- Actively identify what types of activities or skills are needed by talking to managers/staff and residents
- Schedule programs on a regular or as needed basis
- Analyse and assess the participation and success of the activity
- Provide information and support on a wide range of issues; health, community resources, income support, employment and social and recreational activities.
- Provide therapeutic support and crisis intervention and conflict resolution
- Actively engage and build rapport with residents to maintain trusting relationships
- Provide a supportive environment to ensure people feel safe, secure and comfortable in their new home.
- Maintain clear professional boundaries with people being supported and any visitors
About you:
- Relevant Certificate in Community Services
- Relevant experience working with the homeless community, to develop life skills programs/activities
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Understanding of key issues affecting the homeless community and an understanding of key legislation
- Calm interpersonal skills, building positive relationships with residents, program leaders, staff and managers
- Excellent time management and organisation skills
