About the opportunity
Based at our Kwinana yard, the Assets & Materials Lead – Central Operations will take responsibility for the effective management of assets, materials, plant, equipment and operational resources supporting our Central Operations function.
This is a hands-on leadership role overseeing the day-to-day coordination of yard, workshop, fleet, scaffold and dry-hire activities, ensuring the right resources are available, compliant and ready to support operational requirements. You will lead a multidisciplinary team, work closely with internal project teams and clients, and drive safe, efficient and cost-effective operations.
With responsibility spanning operational performance, asset utilisation, HSEQ, cost control and people leadership, you will play a key role in ensuring Central Operations consistently delivers against business and client expectations.
Key responsibilities
- Lead the day-to-day operations of the Central Operations function, ensuring resources are effectively planned, allocated and managed.
- Manage the availability, mobilisation and compliance of plant, equipment, fleet, scaffold and dry-hire assets.
- Coordinate material logistics and ensure equipment and resources are available to meet operational and project schedules.
- Lead Supervisors, subcontractors and operational personnel to achieve safe, productive and high-quality outcomes.
- Monitor operational performance, schedules, budgets and resource requirements, proactively addressing issues that may impact delivery.
- Maintain accurate asset, facility and operational records and ensure relevant systems and data remain current and reliable.
- Work closely with internal project teams to provide an effective internal service supporting contract and project delivery.
- Build strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including regular communication around work planning, progress, issues and additional requirements.
- Drive a strong HSEQ culture across the yard, workshops and operational teams, including hazard identification, audits, training and compliance.
- Ensure plant, equipment and facilities are maintained to the required standards and are safely available for operational use.
- Identify opportunities to improve operational processes, asset utilisation, quality and cost efficiency.
- Support budget management and P&L; performance, promoting cost-conscious and commercially effective work practices.
- Coach, mentor and develop team members, ensuring the workforce has the capability and competencies required to deliver operational requirements.
About you
You will be an experienced operations, asset or materials professional who combines strong leadership capability with practical knowledge of plant, equipment and material logistics. You will be comfortable managing competing priorities, leading both white- and blue-collar teams and working closely with stakeholders to deliver operational outcomes.
You will bring:
- Demonstrated experience in asset management, materials logistics, plant and equipment or a similar operational setting.
- Experience managing high-value plant, equipment and associated logistics.
- Proven experience leading multidisciplinary teams across operational, yard, workshop or project environments.
- Strong understanding of plant and equipment compliance, maintenance and mobilisation requirements.
- Experience managing resources, schedules, budgets and operational performance.
- Strong communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to build effective relationships and resolve issues proactively.
- Sound computer skills, including Microsoft Office and ERP or asset management systems.
- Strong written communication skills with the ability to prepare professional correspondence and reports.
- A relevant trade or high-risk qualification will be highly regarded.
- A proactive, practical and solutions-focused approach with a strong commitment to HSEQ.
- The flexibility to support a range of operational requirements across both yard and project environments.
