Responsibilities
We are seeking an experienced and hands-on Chief Engineer to join our pre-opening team full time and play a pivotal role in launching our exciting new hotel in Perth.
This is a unique opportunity to establish the engineering, maintenance and asset-management foundations that will support the safe, efficient and successful operation of the hotel from opening and beyond.
Working closely with the General Manager, hotel leadership team, developers, contractors and service providers, you will oversee all aspects of the hotel’s engineering and maintenance operations. This will include commissioning, preventative maintenance, compliance, contractor management, energy efficiency, workplace health and safety,
and the management of capital and operational budgets.
Your key responsibilities will be:
- Lead all engineering and maintenance activities throughout the hotel’s pre-opening phase and ongoing operations.
- Work closely with the development and project teams during commissioning, handover and defects-management processes.
- Oversee the testing, commissioning and operation of the hotel’s mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, fire, security, lift, pool and building-management systems.
- Establish preventative and reactive maintenance programs, operating procedures, asset registers and compliance schedules.
- Recruit, train and lead the hotel’s engineering and maintenance team.
- Ensure the hotel’s buildings, equipment, facilities and public areas are maintained to the highest standards of safety, presentation and operational efficiency.
- Manage hotel utilities and implement energy, water and waste-reduction initiatives.
- Ensure compliance with relevant building regulations, Australian Standards, WHS legislation, environmental requirements and company policies.
- Manage external contractors, consultants, service agreements and statutory inspections.
- Develop and manage the engineering operating budget, capital expenditure plans, procurement requirements and inventory controls.
- Respond promptly to equipment failures, maintenance issues and emergencies to minimise disruption to guests and hotel operations.
- Partner with hotel departments to support exceptional guest experiences and the smooth operation of all facilities.
- Maintain accurate records, reports, maintenance logs, warranties, manuals and compliance documentation.
- Participate in the hotel’s emergency response, fire safety and business continuity planning.
About YOU
- Previous experience as a Director of Engineering, Chief Engineer, Engineering Manager or Facilities Manager within a hotel, resort or similarly complex property.
- Previous hotel pre-opening, major refurbishment or building-commissioning experience will be highly regarded.
- Relevant trade qualification or tertiary qualification in engineering, building services, facilities management or a related discipline.
- Strong working knowledge of mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, HVAC, fire safety and building-management systems.
- Demonstrated experience managing preventative maintenance programs, contractors, compliance requirements and capital projects.
- Sound knowledge of Australian Standards, building regulations, WHS requirements and relevant statutory obligations.
- Strong financial capability, including experience managing operational and capital expenditure budgets.
- Proven ability to lead, develop and motivate an engineering and maintenance team.
- Excellent communication, problem-solving and stakeholder-management skills.
- A practical, hands-on leadership style with strong attention to detail.
- The ability to balance strategic asset-management priorities with daily operational requirements.
- Availability to respond to urgent maintenance or emergency matters outside standard working hours when required.
